News To Know: police pursuit ends in crash, armadillo migration

COMMERCE, Okla. — Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that Saturday evening, November 19, 2022, just after 8 p.m. a police pursuit ended as the officer crashed north of Commerce, Oklahoma. The crash occurred on County Road S 560 near County Road E 30 in Ottawa County, Oklahoma. Vernon Moyer, 39, of Commerce was operating a 2018 Dodge Charger police cruiser. He was driving north on County Road s 560 where they say the brakes failed in the police car. The car then left the road and went into a ditch. MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. – One man is dead following a two-vehicle crash about 3 p.m. Sunday, November 20th on Route E, 7 miles northeast of Bella Vista, Arkansas in McDonald County, Missouri. Michelle McKeever, 57, of Seligman, was operating the second vehicle, a 2018 Kia Soul. She was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in NW Arkansas with serious injuries. The passenger, Thomas McKeever, 56, also of Seligman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Click here to read more about this story.

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Tower Foundation awarded a grant to a Riverton organization to support mental health services. That’s according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt. The Spring River Mental Health and Wellness Center was awarded $10,000 to assist with the transition to and/or implementation of requirements for the new designation of being a certified community behavioral health clinic (CCBHC). MISSOURI – The armadillo population in Missouri is growing, and a lot of travelers will see them along the roadside.  Armadillos have a bad reputation for digging in gardens — pastures — and yards searching for bugs to eat. Experts theorize that climate change is making armadillos migrate north from their usual habitat of desert-like environments.

Police officer critical, crashed during pursuit

Crash occurred on County Road S 560 near County Road E 30 in Ottawa County, Okla.

Vernon Moyer, 39, of Commerce was operating a 2018 Dodge Charger police cruiser. The Cause of Collision is described as, “Pursuit of fleeing vehicle, high rate of speed.”

Quapaw Nation EMS transported Moyer to a Joplin, Mo. hospital suffering critical injuries.

Conditions during the crash event are listed as clear skies and dry roadway.

Police pursuit ends with two dead in officer involved shooting

UPDATE: The Greene County Sheriff’s office update information, “The two suspects involved in this incident have been identified as Timothy W. Shafer, 37 years of age, and Donna M. Bailey, 23 years of age. The next of kin have been notified. This investigation is still ongoing.”

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. — Saturday morning, September 24, just before 3 a.m. Ozark Missouri Police initiated a traffic stop on a suspected DWI driver near US-65 and MO-14. The Chevy passenger car fled. The Ozark Police officer did not initiate pursuit.

A short time later about 3:30 a.m. a Christian County Deputy located the same Chevy passenger car in the Highlandville area and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit neared US-65 Highway and State Hwy CC where a Deputy performed a TVI (Tactical Vehicle Intervention) after the suspect vehicle attempted to run over a Deputy.

The suspect vehicle was flipped onto its side.

“Both occupants of the vehicle failed to comply with commands,” the Greene County Sheriff’s office state in a media release. “The male then appeared out of the driver’s side window with a firearm and the suspect brandished the firearm at the officers.”

Christian County Sheriff’s Deputies, Nixa Police officers and Ozark Police officers fired their weapons at the threat.

Both occupants of the vehicle, white male driver and a female passenger, are confirmed as deceased.

No names are released as next of kin notifications are not confirmed.

The Sheriff’s Critical Incident Team (SCIT) responded to the scene. The SCIT is comprised of the county sheriffs of the following jurisdictions: Greene, Christian, Webster and Lawrence.

Sarcoxie Police Pursuit, pickup crashes out and driver not located

SARCOXIE, Mo. – On Saturday just before 2 p.m. a Sarcoxie Police officer initiated a traffic stop on a gold Chevy single cab pickup. The pickup fled north towards La Russell, Mo.

The pursuit ended as the pickup crashed at 1st and Locust. The driver fled on foot, “described as a white skinnier male with dirty blonde hair, blue jean shorts,” Chief Corum states in a release of information.

Jasper County Sheriff’s office assisted with Aerial Drone support as well as other agencies, Lawrence County Sheriff’s office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The driver was not located and is not known at this time. Chief Corum says their dept is seeking information from the public.

NOTE: The registered owner was contacted and stated they sold the vehicle months ago to an unknown individual.

Missouri couple arrested in Oklahoma after 2nd police pursuit with their two kids on board

NOEL, Mo. — At the beginning of the month, April 1, 2022, Noel Marshal’s Office engaged in a pursuit with a white GMC Yukon. The vehicle evaded officers.

Following the pursuit, investigation revealed the registered owner was untruthful about being in the vehicle during that pursuit. Additionally it was discovered their two children were present in the vehicle.

As a result of the Noel Marshal’s investigation, charges were filed and a warrant for arrest was signed in McDonald County, Mo. for, Isabella Bailey, 26, and Issac Downum, 26, both of Anderson, Mo.

WEEKS LATER A PURSUIT WITH OKLAHOMA HIGHWAY PATROL

Oklahoma Highway Patrol engaged in a pursuit on April 19, 2022. The vehicle crashed out and the driver fled the on foot. Leaving behind a passenger and their two children.

Bailey was the passenger and taken into custody on McDonald County, Mo. outstanding warrants.  She was extradited back to Missouri and is being held in the McDonald County Detention Center on $1,500 cash-only bond.

Downum was located later that night in Oklahoma through drone using infrared technology. He is facing criminal charges first in Delaware County, Okla. and then will be extradited to Missouri on charges stemming from the early April pursuit.

The children were not injured in the pursuit and crash in Oklahoma. They have now been transferred to the custody of family members.

Police take on fire during pursuit; Jasper County Deputy cruiser slammed by stolen pickup

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Jasper County Sheriff’s office release details regarding a police pursuit of a stolen pickup Friday afternoon.

About 3 p.m. the Carthage PoliceDepartment initiated a pursuit with a reported stolen vehicle from Oklahoma.  The pursuit continued out into the county, where Jasper County Deputies, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Carthage Police attempted to stop the stolen truck.

“During the pursuit the suspect fired shots from his vehicle towards law enforcement, the suspect then drove through fences attempting to flee and rammed into a Jasper County patrol car  before the stolen pickup crashed in the creek near Fairview and CR 170.

The suspect then fled on foot with the gun still in his possession.  The suspect was arrested a short time later.  A female passenger was also taken into custody.” — Jasper Co. Sheriff’s office

No deputies or law enforcement officers were injured during this incident.

Two were arrested, Johnny M. Crowels, 50, of Sacramento Ca. and Michelle L. Lucas, 35, of Broken Arrow Ok.

Both suspects were transported to the Jasper County Detention facility in Carthage, Mo.

  • resisting arrest
  • tampering 1st
  • property damage x2
  • armed criminal action

More charges may come as the investigation is ongoing.

Police pursuit ends as pickup slams into utility pole

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just after 4:45 p.m. Monday reports of a pickup crashed into a utility pole at Zora and S Independence Ave. Neighbors said power was out.

On scene Ofc Josh Dykstra tells us it was the end of a police pursuit initiated minutes prior to the crash.

Male subject was wanted on a Felony Burglary Warrant and was spotted by officers. Officers attempted to perform a Felony Car Stop and the pickup fled beginning about N St Louis and Trenton Ave.

The pursuit weaved in and out of Royal Heights until crashing into the utility pole, knocking out power to the area.

Both occupants of the pickup were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The male driver will face additional charges

The female passenger has no pending charges.

Liberty Utilities on scene will have to replace at least one pole. Expect power to be restored later into the evening.

Police pursuit of burglary suspect ends in arrest of St. Paul, Kan. man, Sheriff says pickup was stolen out of Frontenac

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. – Sheriff Danny Smith releases details regarding a Tuesday morning pursuit where a suspect is now in custody.

It began Tuesday morning as a reported Burglary in Progress in McCune, Kansas, in the extreme southwest part of the county. A responding Crawford County Deputy located the vehicle and a pursuit ensued.

The suspect vehicle, white pickup, also returned stolen out of Frontenac.

During the 30-minute pursuit assisting agencies joined including Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Kansas Highway Patrol. The pursuit ended south of US-400 Hwy at 70th and NW Coal Valley Road as the pickup crashed out in a field.

Sheriff Smith’s release of information states the suspect was arrested and now identified as Seth Michael Emert, 29, of St. Paul.

Police pursuit tops 100 mph, however wanted female runs out of gas

McDONALD COUNTY, Mo. — A traffic stop ends in a police pursuit and Felony arrest when a wanted female ran out of gas.

McDonald County Sheriff’s office release details from Sunday, October 10, when Anderson Police attempted to perform a traffic stop of a silver Mazda Tribute, discovered later to be driven by Heather Walker of Pineville, Missouri.

The vehicle failed to stop. Leading officers on a pursuit that topped 100 mph at times. 

  • PATH OF PURSUIT:
  • West on State Hwy 76
  • South on State Hwy 43
  • West on State Hwy 90
  • North on US-59

Noel Deputy Marshal’s had set up spike strips in an attempt to stop the pursuit. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and although running over the spike strips was able to continue evading law enforcement. The vehicle then traveled north on State Highway 59 with the vehicle eventually running out gas and coming to a stop.” — McDonald Co. Sheriff’s office

Walker was arrested. She was wanted on warrants including: Receiving Stolen Property, Passing Bad Checks, Resisting Arrest, and Stealing. Additionally Walker is being held on numerous out of state warrants

Walker was transported to the McDonald County jail. She will now face additional charges connected to the pursuit state the Sheriff’s office.
