Go cart struck by SUV, Joplin teen rushed trauma to area hospital

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – Monday evening, October 10, 2022 just before 8:45 p.m. reports of an SUV crash with a go cart just west of the Belle Center Curve near Shade Tree Lane alerted Jasper County E-911.

Carl Junction Fire, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and METS ambulance responded.  Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.

CRASH OCCURRED JUST WEST OF THE BELLE CENTER CURVE NEAR SHADE TREE LANE.

On the scene we learn a homemade go cart being driven by Dominic McKinley, 18, of Joplin, was struck by an SUV on West Belle Center.  He was rushed Priority One to an area hospital suffering moderate injuries.

Driving the SUV, 1998 Toyota 4Runner, was Sally Mikesell, 73, of Tempe, Ariz. She was not injured.

Comer’s Wrecker removed the vehicles from the roadway.

Pickup rear ended and overturned near Oronogo

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Just after 10 p.m. Saturday night, October 8, 2022, reports of a two-vehicle crash along MO-96 near CR240 alerted Jasper County E-911.

Oronogo Fire Dept, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and METS ambulance responded. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified. Oronogo Police assisted.

On scene we learn from Sgt B. Crockett of Troop D, two pickups were traveling eastbound on MO-96, just east of CR-240.

The driver of the pickup in the rear admitted to using his phone, looked up and struck the other pickup in the left rear, causing it to go off-road, through a barbed wire fence, overturning.

Two people in the pickup overturned were transported to Freeman West hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

They were not wearing seat belts.

The driver of the other pickup was not injured.

H&H Wrecker removed the vehicles from the crash scene.

Carl Junction Fire Dept experience busy two days

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — The Carl Junction Fire Dept keep very busy as a 24-hour dept. Not only do they respond to fire calls, but also firefighters are EMS First-Responders.

Thursday and Friday we report on two unrelated fires their department worked.

HAWTHORNE ROAD GRASSFIRE/BARN DESTROYED

Thursday afternoon reports of a grassfire on private property near 25000 block of Hawthorne Road directly east of Carl Junction city limits. Chief Joe Perkins tells us they responded to extinguish a grassfire that spread from a burn barrel.

Crews remained on the scene making sure the fire would not rekindle.

About two hours later a call to the same address to reports the 30 x 30 sheet metal barn was fully engulfed in fire.

It took about an hour to extinguish that blaze. The sheet metal covered wood-frame building had a dirt floor. The cause is under investigation.

HUGE PLUME BLACK SMOKE/EAGLEWOOD ROAD

Friday about 11:30 a.m. Carl Junction Fire responded to reports of an outside fire in the 500 block of Eaglewood Drive just north of Joplin.

Chief Joe Perkins says the fire was a large pile of railroad ties and discarded tires.

“We scattered the pile and then put about 4,000 gallons of water on it all,” Chief tells us with that much information water it’s most-likely not to rekindle.

They are investigating the cause of the fire.

Due to the amount of waste from the fire he said they have contacted DNR to launch an investigation.

Carthage, Mo. man killed as tractor trailer overturns on Baseline Blvd

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — About 1 p.m. Tuesday reports of a serious crash on Baseline Blvd near Civil War Road alerted Jasper County E911.

Jasper Fire Dept, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and Mercy EMS responded emergency. Missouri State Highway Patrol and MoDOT Emergency Response were notified.

On the scene of the crash the roadway was completely blocked. Tpr B. Walker tells us it was a single vehicle crash, the driver was killed.

Next of kin have been notified.

Mark Tidball, 64, was driving a 1988 Freightliner pulling a lime spreader trailer west on Baseline Blvd nearing CR150.

Occurred as [tractor trailer] went off the right side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting the driver.” — Tpr B. Walker

Rear-ended at highway speed, car is smashed as pickup overturns

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – About 6:15 a.m. reports of a two-vehicle crash at 7th and Central City, west of Joplin alerted Jasper County E-911.

Carl Junction Fire Dept, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and METS ambulance responded.  Missouri State Highway Patrol and MoDOT Emergency Response were notified.

On the scene Tpr J.D. Fischer of Troop D tells us both vehicles were traveling westbound on 7th.  The passenger car slowed to turn north onto Central City Road and was rear-ended at highway speed by the pickup truck, which then overturned.  The crash came to rest northwest of the intersection taking down a southbound stop sign.

Tpr Fischer tells us no one required transport to a hospital.

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Gone missing from his residence on August 1, have you seen the missing teen, Matthew Messner, 16.

Last seen wearing jeans and a t-shirt leaving his residence on Fountain Road in Jasper County, Mo. Possibly headed to Pittsburg or Weir, Kan. area to see his brother.

Body discovered at long-abandoned farmhouse in Carytown, Jasper County Sheriff’s Detectives investigate

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — About 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon reports of a vehicle with a person inside near Civil War and Pine Road alerted Jasper County E911.

Jasper County Deputies responded to a long-abandoned farmhouse in Carytown on Pine Road west of Civil War Road.

On the scene Jasper County Detectives tell us a cream-colored Ford Edge was located behind the farmhouse. The body of an individual was in the vehicle. It is thought to be missing Alba woman, Michele Stone.

Also located at the scene was a poodle, Stone’s missing dog, Liberty. Deputies said she was very thirsty.

Next of kin have been notified. And Liberty is with family now.

Jasper County Coroner Randy Nace claimed the body about 4:30 p.m.

Foul play is not suspected at this time.  An autopsy will be scheduled as part of the continuing investigation. Those details are unknown at this time.

‘Bear in the Air’ over Joplin; Police agencies work an aggressive vehicle enforcement event

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Saturday the Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers along with local Jasper County agencies conducted a traffic operation.

Joplin Police confirm with us the JPD Traffic Unit, along with the Jasper County Sheriff’s office are assisting the MSHP, conducting an aggressive vehicle enforcement event focused at impaired and careless drivers.

“Joplin Officers are participating in a hazardous moving violation detail with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Jasper County Sheriffs office this evening to enforce dangerous driving. Joplin Officers are using overtime funds provided from the Missouri Department of Transportation.” — SGT JARED DELZELL, JPD

Starting about 5 p.m. Saturday, Missouri State Highway Patrol had their helicopter above monitoring traffic.

INCIDENT AS JOPLIN POLICE SURROUND A RESIDENCE

Just before 7 p.m. Joplin Police officers on S Rangeline followed a sport bike west on 20th to a residence with the help of MSHP. The occupant(s) fled on foot into a house near the 2100 block of S Virginia.

As police surrounded the house, it was a short time before occupants were talking to police. The sport bike we are told was doing 80 in a 35.

Sheriff seeking wellbeing check on woman once thought to be kidnapped

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – Over the weekend the Sheriff’s office released details on a woman they called Endangered and Missing.  Tuesday the case was updated with more information regarding Michele Stone, 51, of Alba, Mo.

“After further investigation it has been determined that Michele Stone does not appear to have been kidnapped. Detectives have obtained video footage of her at a fast-food restaurant and other locations where she is alone in her vehicle, with her dog, and she does not appear to be in distress. However, her family and the Sheriff’s Office would still like to contact her to check her wellbeing.” – Jasper County Sheriff’s office

Woman missing and endangered, Jasper County Sheriff seeks assistance

ALBA, Mo. — The Jasper County Sheriff’s office release details on a missing woman.

Michele Stone, 51, has been reported missing from 203 Smith Street in Alba.

She is considered endangered. Her white 2007 Ford Edge is also missing. If you have information regarding Stone or the vehicle please contact JASCO at 359-9100.” — JASPER CO MO SHERIFF
