JOPLIN, Mo. — Law officers search for a domestic assault suspect at a home on the 18-block of Joplin’s west 21st street for several hours on Tuesday. As authorities continue their search they have now released his identity. They say 32-year-old Christopher L. Smith of Joplin assaulted a woman by punching her in the head multiple times and choking her. Smith has an active warrant for second-degree domestic assault.

SOUTHWEST MISSOURI — Authorities charge a Tennessee man in the traffic death of a Southwest Missouri man. The July crash claimed the life of 67-year-old Dell Clark of Neck City. Nashville police say Jeremy King of Troy, Tennessee was driving 89 miles per hour and passing cars when he clipped another car and lost control. He then hit two other cars, including Clark’s. Police say King is still hospitalized. There were no signs of alcohol or drug impairment. King is charged with vehicular homicide by recklessness among other counts.

JOPLIN, Mo. —Authorities charge Austin Bryant with the armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver in Joplin. Investigators say the victim delivered a pizza to a home on west 20th street when a man pointed a gun at him and demanded the pizza, his phone, and all of his money. SWAT was called in to make the arrest. Bryant is charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

WINTER — Frozen water pipes can be an unexpected frustration during cold weather, and as the temperature continues to drop, it becomes even more important to make sure your pipes are well insulated. An official with Missouri American water says warm pipes are a necessity to get through the cold winter.

Bank robber apprehended

MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. – The Miami County Sheriff’s Office arrest a man they say robbed the Landmark National Bank in Louisburg, Kansas on July 19, 2021. Joplin authorities earlier this week say they were investigating whether it was the same suspect who robbed Great Southern Bank that same day. Surveillance photos took during both robberies show the suspect wearing similar clothing and driving a white car.

According to a press release, members of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Joplin Police Department and Kansas City Missouri Police successfully identified, located and arrested the suspect on July 20. His identity will be withheld until formal charges are made.

LOUISBURG ROBBERY

The bank robbery in Louisberg, Kansas happened Monday morning, July 19, around 10:00 a.m. The FBI says a suspect with a KC hat and white 4-door car robbed the Landmark National Bank. Authorities say the suspect demanded cash and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Kansas authorities say the suspect left in a white sedan. They describe the suspect as a white man who is between 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and 5 feet 8 inches tall. They say he’s heavyset with salt and pepper hair. The suspect was wearing a ball cap, white tennis shoes, and a black face mask.

JOPLIN ROBBERY

In Joplin, the robbery at Great Southern Bank happened the same day, but shortly before 1:00 p.m. During this robbery, the Joplin Police Department says the suspect displayed a weapon then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. There are no injuries.

Joplin authorities describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 5’ 5”, wearing a black facemask, blue and white KC hat, dark-colored shirt, and blue jeans. The suspect fled the scene in a white 4 door passenger car.

The Great Southern Bank is offering a reward of $3,500 for information relating to the identity, arrest, and conviction of the suspect in this case.

Pittsburg, Ks- Police arrest a man after a stabbing in Pittsburg. It happened Sunday, July 18, in the 400 block of West 6th Street. Authorities say a 40-year-old man suffered multiple stab wounds to the face and abdomen. After investigating, they identified 50-year-old Jose Flores-Velez as a suspect and arrested him later on Sunday. They are holding him without bond and requesting a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Joplin, Mo- Authorities are looking for a person caught on surveillance robbing a Joplin bank with a weapon. Police say it happened Monday afternoon at the great southern bank at 1232 South Rangeline. According to police, the robber entered the bank, demanded money while displaying a weapon, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The Joplin Police Department and FBI are investigating. Great Southern Bank is offering a 35-hundred dollar reward for the identity, arrest, and conviction of the robber.

Joplin, Mo- The Joplin City Council finalized a contract for the 32nd Street widening project and approved another one on first reading. Earlier this month the council started the approval process for an eight-point-six million dollar contract to fund the widening project from Shifferdecker to Central City Road. Monday, July 20, they finalized that agreement with Emery Sapp and Sons, Inc. They also approved on first reading a 520-thousand dollar contract for construction phase engineering services for the project. Since this was only the first reading for the new contract, it will have to be approved again on second and third readings.

Two arrested for Joplin Kum & Go armed robbery

JOPLIN, Mo. – Authorities have arrested two people following an armed robbery at a Joplin convenience store.

It happened Thursday night at the Kum & Go on South Main. Authorities say a man went into the store, brandished a knife and demanded money. The clerk got away safely, and the man left in a car with a woman.

Authorities say the suspect is Robert Castro. He was arrested later after a Joplin police officer tracked the car down. He was arrested in connection with the robbery and outstanding warrants.

The alleged driver, Madison Shores was also arrested. She’s facing charges on possession of a controlled substance, DWI and possession of marijuana.

Police searching for man who robbed Parsons Dollar General

PARSONS, Kan. – Parsons Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a man who robbed a Dollar General Store Monday morning.

Police say the suspect robbed the Dollar General at 2612 Main St around 9:09 a.m. at gunpoint. He fled the scene in an unknown direction of travel.

The suspect is reported as a white male wearing blue pants, tan coat and armed with black handgun.
