News To Know: rollover crash, Pittsburg’s new fire chief

PRYOR, Okla. – Just after six on Monday night a 2018 Chevrolet Impala struck a culvert. The car then struck a sign, overturned two and a half times, and struck a fence. The driver, Jacee Blackford of Locust Grove, was ejected from the vehicle. The accident happened on Oakwood Road just south of Sycamore Lane in Pryor Oklahoma. Although equipped, OHP says Blackford’s seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash. She was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa where she was admitted with head, arm, and trunk internal injuries.

LAMAR, Mo. – Authorities have charged Lamar, Missouri business owner Denis Masters with the theft of thousands of dollars worth of payments and goods. The prosecutor has charged the 54-year-old Masters with four counts of felony stealing in separate cases. Masters owns The Rustic Barn Flea Market in Lamar.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg announces battalion chief Taylor Cerne has been appointed to the position of fire chief. The decision came after former fire chief Dennis Reilly announced his retirement earlier this year. Cerne joined the Pittsburg fire department in march of 2005 and has held multiple positions at the department, most recently battalion chief.

Lamar teens involved in fatal crash, Missouri State Highway Patrol investigate

BARTON COUNTY, Mo. — Just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning reports of a crash along State Route V near NE 40th alerted Barton County E-911.

A Barton County Deputy arrived first, locating the crash about 10 miles northwest of Lamar. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.

On scene we learn it was a single vehicle crash with three occupants, the driver, Benjamin Harrington, 18, of Lamar was killed.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Major Crash Investigation Unit (MCIU), incl. Cpl K.R. Waters, was summoned to assist the investigation.

The two passengers were teens from Lamar. Female, 16, suffered serious injuries. She was transported AIR EVAC to Mercy Springfield.

Male, 16, suffered minor injuries and was picked up by family. He was the only occupant wearing a seat belt.

Next of kin are notified. Barton County Coroner Sarah Rutledge pronounced the deceased at time of crash. The body was transported to Daniels Funeral Home of Lamar.

Parks Towing removed the crashed vehicle and debris. The roadway was reopened to traffic about 6 a.m.

One of three defendants pleads guilty in Lamar murder case

LAMAR, Mo. — It’s a guilty plea for a southwest Missouri man in relation to a 2020 Lamar murder case.

28-year-old Lane Bronson pled guilty to 2nd Degree Murder for the shooting death of 51-year-old Terry Harless.

Back on July 13, 2020, Harless’ body was found in the early morning hours at a home in the 700 block of Broadway in Lamar.

Bronson is one of three defendants charged in the murder.

Davis Morris and Tre Ackerson are also facing charges in the case.

Bronson’s sentencing is scheduled for December 17th.
