Female struck by car; Fatal crash investigation along MO-171

JOPLIN, Mo. — Early Thursday, December 8, at 6:13 a.m. area first-responders were alerted to a fatal traffic crash involving a female pedestrian near MO-171 and Swede Lane in the eastbound lanes.

Capt William Davis updates information on a media release, “She has been identified as Cheyanne Funk, age 22 of Joplin. Next of kin has been notified. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was not injured. Members of the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team are actively investigating the crash.”

EARLIER INFORMATION

Cpl Sean Higgins of the Joplin Police Dept tells KOAM’s Shannon Becker the adult female was pronounced deceased on the scene. “She was attempting to cross the highway.”

JPD Sgt Jared Delzell says their Major Crash Team is investigating.

The driver was not impaired. The driver was not arrested.

  • MO-171 West of St. Louis/Prairieflower Road

T-bone crash at Sarcoxie, claims life of local young man

SARCOXIE, Mo. — About 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022 reports of a two vehicle crash at MO-37 and Blackberry Road alerted Jasper Count E-911.

Sarcoxie Fire Dept, Sarcoxie Police and Mercy Ambulance responded. MoDOT Emergency Response and Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.

On scene we learn from Sarcoxie Police Chief Brandy Corum they requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol to process the crash scene.

Cpl Jeff Prewitt of Troop D tells us their MCIU (Major Crash Investigation Unit) will investigate what occurred.

Driving a 2013 Fiat, Emmanuel Lovell, 20, of Sarcoxie, he was traveling north on CR60. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Jasper County Coroner Randy Nace.

A passenger in the Fiat,  Eden Sims, 19, of Sarcoxie, was transported to Mercy Joplin suffering moderate injuries.

Operating a 2002 Ford F250, Tracy Lowe, 52, of Mt. Vernon, Mo. was traveling east on BlackBerry Road. She was not injured in the crash.

Occurred as the [Fiat] pulled into the path of [Ford F250].

M&M Wrecker removed both crashed vehicles. The area was cleared to all traffic about 6:30 p.m.

Woman killed in t-bone crash near Carthage, Mo.

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Just before 11:45 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2022 reports of a two-vehicle crash at CR70 and Nutmeg Road alerted Jasper County E-911.

Carthage Fire, Jasper County Deputies and Mercy Ambulance responded. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified. Barton County Electric were notified of a damaged utility pole.

On scene Tpr A.J. Cook tells us a southbound car on CR70 was struck by a car traveling west on Nutmeg Road. One driver died at the scene.

Tpr Cook says the neither driver were wearing seatbelts. The deceased was ejected.

Next of kin have been notified. Linda Getty, 73, of Avilla, Mo. was pronounced at the scene. She was driving a 2018 Ford Fusion.

Christian Blevins, 21, of Carthage, Mo. was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala. He suffered minor injuries and was transported by Mercy Ambulance to Mercy Joplin.

Schrader’s Towing removed both vehicles from the crash scene.

Barton County Electric replaced at least one pole at the intersection that was broken in half in the crash.

Pedestrian killed in crash, Joplin Police Major Crash Team investigate

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just before 3 a.m. Joplin E-911 were alerted to a crash on North Main just south of the Zora overpass.

Joplin Police, Joplin Fire and METS ambulance responded.

All traffic north and south on N Main was closed immediately:

  • Closed at North Main and Murphy Blvd
  • Closed at North Main and Zora

On scene Cpl Sean Higgins of the Joplin Police Dept tells us a northbound pickup struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

The pedestrian was deceased.

The JPD Major Crash Team was summoned for investigation as they utilized their FARO crash mapping system.

Cpl Higgins tells us the driver of the pickup was not impaired and not arrested.

No names are being released at this time.

The Jasper County Deputy Coroner arrived about 5:30 a.m. to claim the body.

Joplin teen killed in crash near Grand Falls

JOPLIN, Mo. — Sgt Andy Blair of the Joplin Police Dept confirms with us that Saturday night, October 15, 2022 a fatal crash occurred where a Joplin teen was killed.

The crash occurred at 11:21 p.m. near the intersection of Deer Drive and Dove Drive south of Grand Falls.

Sgt Blair says it was a single vehicle crash.

The 1994 black Honda Civic vehicle had four occupants.

Two occupants had been ejected from the vehicle, they were both rushed to Joplin hospitals. One sustained moderate injury and one was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Two other occupants had minor injuries.

“No identification information is being released at this time pending further investigation,” Sgt Blair states in a media release.

All occupants were juveniles.

Pittsburg, Kan. woman dies in Missouri crash

VERNON COUNTY, Mo. — Saturday evening, October 15, 2022 around 9:30 p.m. Missouri State Highway Patrol report a fatal crash occurred along MO-43, two miles north of Moundville, Mo.

The single vehicle crash involved a 2015 Ford Fusion traveling south on MO-43, driven by Torie N. Thomas , 21, of Pittsburg, Kan. She died at the scene and was sole occupant of the vehicle.

Lamar teens involved in fatal crash, Missouri State Highway Patrol investigate

BARTON COUNTY, Mo. — Just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning reports of a crash along State Route V near NE 40th alerted Barton County E-911.

A Barton County Deputy arrived first, locating the crash about 10 miles northwest of Lamar. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.

On scene we learn it was a single vehicle crash with three occupants, the driver, Benjamin Harrington, 18, of Lamar was killed.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Major Crash Investigation Unit (MCIU), incl. Cpl K.R. Waters, was summoned to assist the investigation.

The two passengers were teens from Lamar. Female, 16, suffered serious injuries. She was transported AIR EVAC to Mercy Springfield.

Male, 16, suffered minor injuries and was picked up by family. He was the only occupant wearing a seat belt.

Crash occurred as [Chevy Impala] ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a bluff and overturned.” — Tpr A.G. Torbeck of Troop D

Next of kin are notified. Barton County Coroner Sarah Rutledge pronounced the deceased at time of crash. The body was transported to Daniels Funeral Home of Lamar.

Parks Towing removed the crashed vehicle and debris. The roadway was reopened to traffic about 6 a.m.

Superintendent of Dadeville Schools killed in crash near Bolivar, Mo.

POLK COUNTY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol Major Crash Investigation Unit were summoned shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, to the scene of a fatal crash on Route T, two miles southwest of Bolivar, Mo.

Killed in the head-on crash was Matthew Bushey, 48, of Bolivar. He was the Superintendent of Dadeville Schools.

Also in his vehicle, 2022 Volkswagen Jetta, a 17-year-old male, name not released, was transported with serious injuries to a Springfield, Mo. hospital.

Missouri State Highway Patrol state in a preliminary report a Ford F-150 crossed the center line and struck the Bushey vehicle head on. The pickup was being driven by a 16-year-old male of Bolivar, Mo. Name not released. He was airlifted to Mercy Springfield with serious injuries.

The Dadeville School District released a statement on their website by Cassy Farmer, Principal:

“Dear Dadeville School families, It is with heavy hearts that I share with you the passing of Superintendent Matt Bushey. Dr. Bushey was lost in an automobile accident this morning just prior to the school day. As you know, this is the first day of school and we understand the emotions that our staff and students are feeling. Counselors have been on hand today and will be in future days for those who need assistance. The Board of Education members, staff and I grieve his passing and ask that you join us with thoughts and prayers for his family. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.”

Carthage, Mo. man killed as tractor trailer overturns on Baseline Blvd

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — About 1 p.m. Tuesday reports of a serious crash on Baseline Blvd near Civil War Road alerted Jasper County E911.

Jasper Fire Dept, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and Mercy EMS responded emergency. Missouri State Highway Patrol and MoDOT Emergency Response were notified.

On the scene of the crash the roadway was completely blocked. Tpr B. Walker tells us it was a single vehicle crash, the driver was killed.

Next of kin have been notified.

Mark Tidball, 64, was driving a 1988 Freightliner pulling a lime spreader trailer west on Baseline Blvd nearing CR150.

ME says man struck, killed in I-44 hit-and-run last week; Victim identified

OTTAWA COUNTY, Okla. — Last week we brought you the story of a body discovered by highway workers along I-44 in NE Okla. Now today more details are revealed that the male was struck and killed by an unknown vehicle.

Thursday, July 28, 2022 at approximately 1:45 pm the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Quapaw Nation Marshal Service and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched near mile marker 319.8 on I-44 regarding a human body that had been located.

Authorities on scene began investigating the incident and the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s office (ME) was contacted and responded to the scene. Once the ME was on scene, the individual later identified as Richard Lee Atchley, 53, a Cherokee tribal member from Chelsea, Oklahoma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death was determined to be from Mr. Atchley being struck by a motor vehicle in the west bound lane of I-44. The motor vehicle that struck Mr. Atchley did not stop or report the incident to the authorities.

Authorities are asking if anyone was traveling on the Will Rogers Turnpike in the area of mile markers 319 – 320 on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 10:00pm to 11:30pm and saw an individual on or near the roadway or any motor vehicles that may have been stopped or struck something in the west bound lanes of I-44, please contact the Quapaw Nation Marshal Service at (918) 238-3137.
