McDonald County Teachers familiarize themselves with new safety features

MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. – McDonald County Teachers and Coaches gathered today to celebrate the upcoming school year.

During the event, those in attendance had the chance to ask questions to the school’s superintendent.

Along with familiarizing themselves with new security equipment, school personnel also took part in an Active Shooter drill.

District officials say they hope the higher security measures put in place will lead to a safer learning environment for McDonald County students.

Doggie Swim Day is off the leash in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Who let the dogs out?

Pittsburg’s Annual Doggie Swim Day kicked off today for the pool’s last day of the 2022 summer season.

During the event, owners and four-legged friends alike made quite the splash at the Pittsburg Parks & Recreation Department.

Officials say this is the 14th year the city has put on the event.

Those interested can participate today until 7:30 p.m.

4-State Burn Bans: What you need to know

Hot summer days and little rainfall have led to dry land in the 4-States, raising the risk of larger fires and giving these fires the potential to grow – Here’s what you need to know to stay safe.

Listed below are some local burn bans in effect.

Kansas

CRAWFORD COUNTY – Crawford County Officials announced a burn ban for the county lasting until the order is rescinded.

Oklahoma

Track burn bans in Oklahoma using the Oklahoma Forestry Services – State and County Burn Ban Status widget.

OTTAWA COUNTY – Ottawa County officials say the county is under a burn ban due to the extreme risk of fire. Outside grilling is still permitted. Officials say the ban is in place until the area receives significant rainfall or the county rescinds the order.

CRAIG COUNTY – The Board of County Commissioners announced last week a burn ban in Craig County.

DELAWARE COUNTY – Delaware County Commissioners originally placed a burn ban in Delaware County on July 19th and extended the motion for two more weeks on Aug. 2nd. The ban will not be in effect on August 16th if an extension is not passed.

Arkansas

According to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture, there are no current county-wide burn bans in northwest Arkansas.

Missouri

SARCOXIE – In a press release yesterday, Fire Chief Carnes stated that due to the drought conditions, the city decided that it will be under a burn ban until Friday 8/19/22.

PIERCE CITY – Pierce City Fire officials say the city is in a D3 (Extreme Drought) per National Drought Mitigation Center and NOAA. The burn ban was initiated on August 4th, however, the area has not yet reached the rainfall amount needed to rescind the order. CLINTON –  Fire Chief Mark Manuel announced a burn ban later in July this year. The releases indicate the ban will remain in effect until the city receives a notable amount of moisture. A notice will be issued once the burn ban is lifted.

MCDONALD COUNTY – The burn ban previously put in place in McDonald County has been lifted.

BARRY COUNTY –  Officials in Barry County announced its previous burn ban has been lifted. The county asks residents to continue to report their controlled burns to the appropriate 911 center, monitor their fires & use caution.

POLK COUNTY: Bolivar, Mo – Officials announced that due to recent rainfall in the area, the Bolivar City Fire Department and Polk County Emergency Management are lifting the citywide burn ban that was enacted Wednesday, July 6, and the countywide ban that followed. Regular city and county ordinances now apply to burning within Bolivar city limits and Polk County.

 

Voluntary Recall: Capri Sun may contain cleaning solution

RECALL: Kraft Heinz issues a voluntary recall of some Capri Sun beverages due to possible cleaning product contamination.

The recall includes about 5,760 cases of Capri Sun Wild Cherry Flavored Juice Drink Blend beverages, according to the company.

“The voluntary recall comes after diluted cleaning solution, which is used on food processing equipment, was inadvertently introduced into a production line at one of our factories.”

The “Best When Used By” date on the products is June 25, 2023. The recalled products have the following case/package information:

  • Product Size: 6.6 FL OZ
  • Name of Product: Capri Sun Wild Cherry Flavored Juice Drink Blend
  • Packaging Description: Individual foil pouches packed in paperboard cartons.
    • Note: Cases shipped to retailers include 4 cartons that are shrink-wrapped together. Product is sold by the carton at retail.
  • Manufacturer Code on Pouch: 25JUN2023   WXX LYY ####
    • Note: #### would be between 0733-0900 for product affected by this issue. XX may be 01, 02, 03, 04, 09, or 10. YY may be 01 through 12.
  • Manufacturer Code on Carton: 25JUN2023  WXX #### CT1404.
    • Note: #### would be between 0733-1000 for product affected by this issue. XX may be 01, 02, or 03.
  • Carton UPC: 0 8768400100 4

Kraft Heinz says consumers who purchased these items should not consume the product. You can return it to the store where you purchased it.

“The issue was discovered after we received several consumer complaints about the taste of the affected product. The Company is actively working with retail partners and distributors to remove potentially impacted product from circulation.” – Kraft Heinz statement

Carthage Fire take quick control of garage fire which showed a huge plume of black smoke

CARTHAGE, Mo. — About 12:15 p.m. Monday reports of a structure fire at 1008 Prospect alerted JasCo E911.

Carthage Police, Mercy EMS and Carthage Fire responded emergency. Upon arrival a garage was reported as fully involved.

Thick, heavy black smoke rose from the east side of Carthage. Tipsters told us they could see it from miles around.

Deputy Chief Jason Martin tells us on the scene that the flames must have been 70 feet high at one point. A large tree towers above the garage and the leaves were all burned off.

He also said no occupants or firefighters were injured.

Fire was under control in about 20 minutes.  Firefighters were able to stop the spread into a second portion on the southern edge of the garage.  On the north side the neighboring house sustained damage as the siding was melted.

We could observe at least one vehicle burned in the rubble of the building.

CWEP (Carthage Water & Electric) responded to turn off power to the burned structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
