“Fighting fire during 113° heat index isn’t just for anyone” — Cowskin Fire Dept

DELAWARE COUNTY, Okla. — Cowskin Fire Dept responded to reports of a structure fire noon on Friday at 260 Road in their jurisdiction.

They requested mutual aid from Grove Fire, Butler Fire, Seneca-Cayuga Fire, Wyandotte Fire, Quapaw Nation Fire and in Missouri, Southwest City Fire. In all nine agencies, 22 apparatus and 42 personnel.

Rick Bronson of Cowskin Fire tells us Saturday, “Needed extra crews to relieve heat exhausted crews. went through 10 cases of water, 6 cases of Gatorade.”

Bronson says they had the fire under control by 2 p.m. but crews weren’t released until 5 p.m. working on hot spots, overhaul and trading out those exhausted firefighters.

“Fighting fire during 113 degrees heat index is not for just anyone,” Cowskin Fire state in a release of information.

“While the house was a total loss and one puppy was lost, some valuable possessions were saved and there were no injuries.”

Grove EMS and Grove Emergency Management also assisted. Cowskin Fire sends out a “big thank you” to all agencies who responded so quickly to assist.

The Oklahoma State Fire Marshal was summoned to assist with investigation along with Delaware County Sheriff. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
