FREDONIA, Kan. – Standing on Fredonia’s South Mound Park is a giant 40 x 60 foot American flag. Atop a 100 foot flagpole, it towers above the small town below. The flag is the centerpiece of a South Mound Park maintained by the Fredonia Lion’s Club.

Fredonia business woman Barbara Vaughn brought the idea to the Fredonia Economic Development Committee and was made a reality in the year 2000. Money for the flags (three a year) comes from continuing donations to the Flag Fund. Vaughn meds the flags when they become frayed.
