Murder suspect in custody after 18 hour manhunt

PARSONS, Ks. — An 18-hour manhunt is over – and a Southeast Kansas murder suspect is in police custody.

29-year old Malcom Odom was arrested at a residence in the 1400 block of Partridge in Parsons.

He was wanted in connection to the shooting death of a 22-year old man early this morning in parsons. That happened shortly after one a.m. at the Mendota Creek Apartment Complex. That’s where police found the body of Levi Kendricks – who had been fatally shot in the chest.

Callers and witnesses reported seeing Odom fleeing from the scene.

PARSONS, Kan. – After an 18 hour manhunt, Parsons, Kansas police arrest a homicide suspect. They say that suspect is 29-year-old Malcom Odom from Parsons.

He was arrested at a house on the 1400 block of Partridge Avenue in Parsons. Authorities say he was found hiding under a couch.

Police say Odom shot and killed 22-year-old Levi Kendricks early Thursday morning. Police say Odom was out on parole and had a felony warrant issued for his arrest by the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Parsons Police are requesting the Labette County Attorney’s Office charge Odom with the following charges: Murder in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Criminal Discharge of a Firearm, Criminal Carrying of a Weapon, and Criminal use of Weapons.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, “This brings another felon to justice in Parsons. I am appreciative to the men and women of the police department that was out in the cold searching houses, wooded areas and following up on every lead all day. I am especially appreciative to the citizens that remembered ‘See It, Hear It, Report It’ and called the police with information or details that led to the apprehension of a dangerous felon.

The Labette County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
