Vi Jinks

Violet M Jinks, age 97 passed away at 11:00 pm, Friday, September 30, 2022 at Medicalodge, Columbus, KS.

Violet (Vi) was born March 22, 1925, near Faulkner, KS. She was one of ten children born to Fred and Claudia (Imel) Burrows and lived most of her life in the Oswego area.

Vi married Gerald Jinks on May 16, 1942, in Portland, OR. He preceded her in death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry, her parents, and 8 siblings.

She and Gerald owned and operated the Oswego Bakery for over 40 years where they were very active in the Oswego business community. Many people would regularly stop by to enjoy the pastries, coffee, and Vi’s warm welcoming smile. Vi and Gerald were well known for their fruitcakes sold both regionally and around the world. After retiring from the bakery, they moved their fruitcake business to the farm east of Oswego. After several years their son, Jerry and his wife, Cheryl carried on the tradition.

Vi was very dedicated to her family and especially enjoyed being active in the lives of her grandchildren which involved traveling to Montana many times.

Vi was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Chamber of Commerce of Oswego.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Jinks, Normal, IL; her sister, Nona Jennings, Lee’s Summit, MO; two grandchildren, Jeffry (Laura) Jinks, Carbondale, IL, and Angela (James) Almeda, Bloomington, IL. She proudly has four great-grandchildren, Ashley Jinks, Christopher Almeda, Nathan Almeda and Rafael Matt-Jinks.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Oswego Cemetery under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, KS.
