Ronald D. “Mouse” DeCow, 74, of Edna, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2022, at his home.
Ronald Dean DeCow was born on May 11, 1948, to Ralph Clinton and Berva Marie (Hagan) DeCow in Oswego. As a young boy, he grew up in rural Altamont and attended Elston Grade School, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1966.
Following high school, Ronald served in the United States Air Force, including in Vietnam. On October 12, 1973, Ronald and Ramona Lee Hastings were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Parsons. The couple settled in Altamont and later moved to Edna, where Ronald had lived since. For many years, he worked for the Bartlett Co-op at various locations, including Edna and Oswego.
He was a Presbyterian. Ronald loved western and cowboy things, including the music of Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and George Jones. He also enjoyed watching baseball, especially the California Angels and the Kansas City Royals.
Survivors include:
One son – Clinton Leon DeCow of Edna, Kansas
One daughter – Juliee (Richard) Smith of Vista, California
One granddaughter – Samantha Smith of Vista, California
Two brothers – Marvin (Mia) DeCow of Wichita, Kansas
Terry DeCow of Edna, Kansas
One sister – Darlene Trollope of Coffeyville, Kansas
Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona, on January 7, 2021.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at the Lake Creek Cemetery with military honors presented by the Brown-Bishop VFW Post 704. Friends may stop by the funeral home to sign the register from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday.
