FORT SCOTT – Kan. – Authorities file charges in last month’s Fort Scott, Kansas double murder case. A relative found 48-year-old Melissa Mitchell dead from a gunshot wound inside her Fort Scott home on December 21st. They also found 53-year-old Leonard Zimmerman dead in the home. Police started searching for Melissa Mitchell’s son, Dawson Mitchell, as a person of interest in the case. They found and arrested him the next day on a number of charges including possession of a firearm by a felon. Now authorities have filed additional charges including two counts of premeditated first-degree murder.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg voters in a couple weeks will decide on a school bond issue for renovations at the Pittsburg Community Middle School. Officials say the renovations will cost an estimated 16.5 million dollars and will continue the current mill levy through 2045. If approved the district would remodel classrooms, add a modern science laboratory, add an elevator for ADA compliance and renovate the school’s auditorium.

CARTHAGE, Mo. – With increasing demand for covid testing one local company is working to fill the gap. Seeds of Hope staffing from Carthage is opening drive-thru covid-19 testing sites across the area. Right now, they have locations in Carthage, Joplin and Neosho. Through a partnership with a lab in Ohio, they’re offering the tests at no-cost. Officials say they’re hopeful these sites will help increase accessibility to covid-19 testing in the area.

MIAMI, Okla. – Integris Health is asking people not to visit emergency departments to get tested for covid. Officials say it can drain the departments’ resources that are needed elsewhere. Integris provided a list of locations in Oklahoma where you can get tested if think you might have covid. That list includes Integris Express Care in Miami and Grove, Indian Health Services, The Ottawa County Health Department, Walgreens, Xpress Wellness in Miami, and Bearskin Wellness Center in Wyandotte.
