Nice Sunday and Monday, potential for winter storm midweek

Expect mostly clear skies tonight, with lows in the mid to upper-20s. A weak cold front will progress through the area, but it will come through dry. A few isolated wind gusts to 25 mph are possible tonight.

Temperatures won’t be all that much cooler behind the front–just five degrees or so for Sunday, when we’ll be looking at mostly sunny conditions and highs in the low to mid-50s.

The warmest day of the week looks to be Monday, with highs climbing into the lower-60s, which is about 15 degrees above normal for late January.

A strong cold front will approach the area Tuesday. With better Gulf moisture still to our south and temperatures still in the mid-50s, we’re just expecting light rain showers during the day Tuesday.

The possibility exists for precipitation to mix with snow, sleet and freezing rain Tuesday night. For Wednesday into Wednesday night, it looks like precipitation will mostly fall in the form of snow, but rain, freezing rain and sleet mixed in remains a possibility. It remains to be seen exactly which parts of the area see which type of precipitation and how heavy it will be. At this time, the highest likelihood for most of the winter impacts (whether it be ice or snow) appears to be for locations from I-44 northward, but this is very much subject to change. Light snow will end during the day Thursday.

One thing that is for sure is temperatures will start to cool down significantly. Highs for Wednesday and Thursday will be in the mid to upper-20s, with Friday morning lows potentially dropping below zero. Winds chills could be as cold as 10 below zero from Wednesday night through Saturday morning. Lows will still be in the single digits Saturday morning, before we warm up into the mid-40s for next weekend’s highs.

Still cool through Friday; Much warmer this weekend

Thursday will see high temperatures in the middle 40s with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Clouds will start to clear in the afternoon before we see plenty of sunshine into Friday and the weekend. We’ll be slightly cooler tomorrow before temperatures jump into the middle 50s this weekend. The last day of January will see a high of 60 before we enter into a more active weather pattern as we enter into February. This will lead to cooler conditions and many chances of rain and snow into next week. We’ll keep you updated on locations, timings and totals as we get closer.

Flurries possible tonight; Much warmer by the weekend

Temperatures today will be slightly warmer than yesterday, but clouds will increase by this evening ahead of a small system that will bring some flurries into the Four States between 8pm-12am tonight. Impacts are not expected, and at most, we could see a light dusting on grassy and elevated surfaces by Thursday morning. Temperatures will warm into the 40s through the end of the week before soaring well into the 50s this weekend and into early next week. The first day of February is next Tuesday, and the month will begin well above average, but precipitation will be above average, as well, as we are expected to enter into an active weather pattern next week.

30 degrees cooler today; Flurries possible late tomorrow night

Yesterday, we hit highs in the lower 60s–today, we’ll be luckily to warm above freezing. Temperatures will be about 30 degrees cooler than yesterday, and wind chills will remain between 10-25 degrees throughout Tuesday as high temperatures near 32 this afternoon. Tomorrow morning will likely be the coldest of the week with lows in the 10s and single digit wind chills. A small shortwave system could bring some of us a few flurries late tomorrow night into Thursday morning, but no accumulations or impacts are expected at this time. We should warm back into the 50s this weekend, with above average temperatures expected through the end of January.

Warm today; Much cooler through Wednesday

Enjoy temperatures in the upper 50s this afternoon, because conditions will be much cooler by tomorrow. A cold front will pass over us late Monday, and temperatures will fall to near 20 degrees by Tuesday morning. We’ll only warm into the lower 30s tomorrow afternoon and the middle 30s by Wednesday. We’re watching two small systems that will likely pass to our south, but if their tracks change, we could see some precipitation in Thursday. We’ll keep you updated if that changes, but right now, it looks like the Four States will stay dry through this week. Temperatures should warm into the 50s again by this weekend.

Warmer Sunday & Monday, colder Tuesday

Mostly clear skies are expected tonight, with just a few passing high clouds possible. Lows will drop to the mid-20s, which is right about where we should be for this time of year.

A weak cold front will shift our winds from the west to the north Sunday, but we’re still looking at a good deal of sunshine and highs in the upper-40s–a few degrees better than what we saw today.

The warmest day of the 7-day looks to be Monday, with highs reaching the mid-50s.

A stronger cold front will move through the Four States late Monday. Behind the front, we could see a few flurries late Monday night, but most areas are expected to stay dry.

It will be noticeably cooler Tuesday, with highs only reaching the mid to upper-30s.

Temperatures will begin to moderate again soon enough for the rest of the week, with highs climbing back to the low to mid-40s under high pressure for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Another system could bring a light wintry mix Thursday afternoon into Thursday night, but this should not cause any trouble.

After cooling off a couple degrees for Friday, we’re back to the mid to upper-40s next Saturday.

Have a great Sunday!

Still cooler today; Warming trend into the weekend

The forecast for your Friday in the Four States can be described in one phrase: warmer, but still cold. We’ll see sunny skies and calm winds with high temperatures in the middle 30s as a warming trend begins. We’ll warm into the 50s by Sunday and Monday before a cold front will pass over the Four States Monday night. This will drop temperatures into the 30s through the middle of next week, and precipitation chances should remain primarily south of the Four States. This will be something to monitor though, because if the path of this system changes, we could see rain transition to snow by Tuesday morning. Temperatures will warm back to near average by next Thursday.

Bitterly cold today; Warming trend leads us into the weekend

After yesterday’s cold front, temperatures and wind chills are COLD today. We’ll only warm into the 20s this afternoon with wind chills likely not lifting above 10 degrees or so today. Temperatures will cool into the single digits overnight as northerly winds begin to calm. Friday will be sunny with temperatures reaching the 30s before a warming trend leads us into the weekend. We’ll see highs reach the 50s by Sunday and Monday before another cold front cools us below average into at least the middle of next week. Right now, it looks like the Four States will stay dry with the passage of this early week cold front, but we’ll keep you updated if that changes.

Winter weather today south of I-44; Much cooler through end of week

After temperatures hit the lower 60s yesterday, winter makes its return to the Four States today. High temperatures are in the upper 30s, and those will be met in the morning hours. We’ll drop into the middle 20s this afternoon. Precipitation is expected to form along I-44 as rain in the mid-morning hours and then transition to snow by the early afternoon. This would likely just be light flurries that wouldn’t last more than an hour or two. Also note that this will only impact areas SOUTH of I-44. The furthest northern areas that could see some flurries are Dade county. Most of Jasper and Ottawa counties will stay dry, as a wintry mix and snow will impact areas south and east of them. Everyone will be dry by sunset, but if you’re traveling in those areas during the afternoon commute, it will be important to pay attention to the radar.

Northerly winds up to 30 MPH today will drop temperatures into the single digits tomorrow morning, and wind chills will be below zero to begin Thursday. We’ll only warm into the 20s tomorrow afternoon before getting back into the 50s by Monday. Another cool down is set for next Tuesday.

Warm and breezy today; Much colder with flurries south tomorrow

Today (Tuesday) will be the warmest day of the week with highs in the upper 50s thanks to some sunshine and southerly wind gusts up to 25 MPH. Those winds will shift out of the north overnight with the passage of a cold front, and temperatures will quickly fall not only overnight, but through Wednesday, as well. Temperatures will continue to fall until they hit the single digits on Thursday morning. Wednesday afternoon could see a few flurries mainly south of I-44 with a trace of accumulation possible, but impacts look to be minimal to none. Expect cold temperatures through the end of the week before we warm back above average by the start of next week.
