Baxter Springs aims for Junior Little League World Series

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. – The Baxter Springs 14U baseball team is about to head to Michigan for the Junior Little League Central Regional tournament.

If they’re able to win the regional tournament, the team would move on to the World Series.

That would be a dream come true for these kids and a good payoff for all the hard work that they’ve done,” says the team’s head coach Arthur Commons, “I know they’re excited to represent the community. The community over the last few weeks has been nothing but supportive. We’re really blessed to be in the Baxter Springs community.

“Practice has been good. We’ve been working hard to get up there and represent Kansas and the town of Baxter Springs,” says infielder Brooks Walker, “We’re ready to go up there and play some good baseball.”

Baxter Springs was the only Junior Little League team in Kansas that put in for postseason competition – making them the automatic Kansas representative in the regional tournament this weekend.

“This team is pretty special to me,” Commons adds, “As a 9U team, they won the state title. As a 12U team they weren’t able to compete for the normal Little League World Series because of COVID. They’re hard-working kids and they love baseball. We wanted to give them the opportunity to see how far we could go this year.”

Baxter Springs opens the tournament on Saturday at 1 PM against the Michigan state champions.
