News to Know: Deputies arrest 3 burglary suspects in Labette County, and PHS Performing Arts raises $60,000 for audio upgrades

LABETTE COUNTY, Kan. – Three arrests may have solved a string of burglaries and thefts in Labette County. On Sunday Oswego police arrested Brett M. Phillips — age 32– his wife Leah R. Phillips — age 22 — and Roxana J. Camper — age 74 as part of an ongoing multi-agency investigation. All three are facing multiple charges.

BARRY COUNTY, Mo. – Just before 7:00am Tuesday morning, Barry County 9-1-1 was alerted to a structure fire on the Cassville square. Cassville Fire Protection and Police answered the 9-1-1 call, but requested aid from Exeter and Butterfield fire departments. The large building made up of mason and wood construction used to be a theatre before it was turned into an office building and then abandoned. The second floor had apartments in it. No occupants were injured in the fire and the Missouri State Fire Marshal was requested to help investigate the cause of the fire.  For more details about the fire click here.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Pittsburg High School Performing Arts department needs help raising enough funds to improve what you hear when attending performances. The department has raised $60,000, and is just six-thousand short for a project to upgrade audio in the auditorium. The project includes upgrading speakers, creating a recording space, and connectivity upgrades that’ll allow for larger pit orchestras to perform in the instrumental music classroom during school musicals. The up-grades will improve the experience for audiences and the students who run the show.

JOPLIN, Mo. – KCU in Joplin is one step closer to opening its dental school after receiving accreditation status from the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Many areas across the country face a dental shortage, including Southwest Missouri.
