Tree disposal program to help wildlife habitats

FORT SCOTT, Ks. — Fort Scott is using the Christmas season to help local wildlife.

Beginning Friday, the city will begin its tree disposal program.

Every Friday this month, workers will collect discarded Christmas trees left on the curb.

Trees will be bundled together and placed in Lake Fort Scott.

Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism officials say this will help create an environment for small fish and eventually larger fish for people to catch.
