Local fraternity is staying up to raise funds for veterans

JOPLIN, Mo. –Kappa Sigma at Missouri Southern State University is staying awake to help out veterans.

The “No sleep for soldiers” fundraiser was 48 hours long, as fraternity members stood on the corner of Rangeline and Duquesne in Joplin to raise funds and awareness about organizations giving back to veterans.

The group started at noon Friday and has been staying out as late as two in the morning.

They said it’s been getting people’s attention and getting donations.

“Get a community to help support and raise awareness for veterans who come back from tours who have to come back home to financial struggles. their family they have to deal with, housing situations, probably hospital bills. anything that we can get and support to give back to them and give to foundations to make it easier for them is the whole reason we do this event” said Kappa Sigma member Kai Hamilton.

He said through this fundraiser they’ve raised more than four thousand dollars in cash and have been able to connect with many members of the community.
