Suspect in 1984 murder pleads innocent
Paul A. Moses entered a plea of not guilty Thursday in the 1984 murder of a 62-year-old Joplin widow named Frances Ramsey. Moses, 65, who recently was extradited to Missouri from California, entered the plea on a charge of first-degree murder during a video arraignment in Jasper County Circuit Court.

With more snow and single-digit temperatures in the forecast, local veterinarians and animal shelters are urging pet owners to protect their furry little friends from the elements. “People need to be really, really aware of how cold it actually is,” said Glenda Erwin, director of the Carthage Humane Society.
Open house scheduled at new Jasper County Sheriff’s new space
Jasper County sheriff’s officers who have been in a renovated building for a month will show off their new space to the public in an open house on Tuesday. The open house will follow a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting for sheriff’s offices in a county-owned former bank building just northwest of the courthouse.
