PITTSBURG, Kan. – Authorities capture a wanted Pittsburg man after a nine-hour standoff.
According to the Pittsburg Police Department, last month, William Patton removed his ankle monitor while on house arrest. Previous charges filed against him include aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Standoff with Wanted Pittsburg Man
On Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, investigators got information on where Patton was hiding out. They also learned Patton was armed with a handgun.
Tuesday afternoon, investigators confirmed that Patton was at a Pittsburg home, 504 East 9th Street. They set up surveillance while getting a search warrant.
Pittsburg Police requested help from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s High Risk Warrant Team to help execute the search warrant.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m., they started executing the warrant. Several law enforcement agencies surrounded the home. The KBI team breached the front door and called out the occupants. A 20-year-old who lived there came out without incident. They took him to jail for obstructing apprehension.
Officers then started evacuating several nearby homes to assure their safety.
The standoff with Patton lasted nine hours as the KBI team tried to call him out of the home for a peaceful conclusion.
This morning, Sept. 8, around 6:00 a.m., Patton had crawled into the attic of the home and fell through the soffits on the front porch.
According to the Pittsburg Police Department, Patton got up and tried to run southbound. Authorities, with the help of the Kansas Highway Patrol K9 unit, quickly apprehended him.
Authorities arrested Patton on outstanding felony warrants out of Woodson County and Crawford County. Police will also be asking for charges of felony interference with law enforcement and unlawfully tampering with an electronic monitoring device.
They are holding him in the Crawford County Jail without bond.
