Vandals target Webb City baseball/softball fields

WEBB CITY, Mo. – Officials at the Webb City Rec Center are left to clean up after vandals target baseball and softball fields.

They say someone ripped bases out of the ground, bent a metal bar on the backstop and tore covers off electrical boxes. Webb City Parks and Rec Director Tom Reed says it’s part of a recent trend seen nationwide.

“Part of the problem we’ve had this year, and I’ve talked to (other) parks and recreation directors in the area, it’s not any more uncommon here than it s anywhere else,” said Reed. “With COVID and all the young people being out of school and that type of stuff, we’ve had an uptick in minor vandalism around the park system in general.”

Officials say they’ll check the cameras in hopes of identifying the person responsible.
