Male in critical condition, found with gunshot wounds on Hill Street

JOPLIN, Mo. – Joplin Police respond to gunshots fired this afternoon on Hill Street in the East Town Neighborhood.

Around 3:42 pm today, someone called 911 about gunshots at 1201 E. Hill Street. Joplin police officers got to the scene and found an adult male victim with gunshot wounds.

METS ambulance transported the victim priority one to an area hospital. Capt William Davis says the victim is critical condition.

Police have not arrested anyone in connection to the shooting at this time. However they are developing information a shooter fled the scene before police arrived.

Capt Davis tells us he hopes to have more information this evening or tomorrow.

One dead in shooting, another rushed to hospital Joplin Police state

JOPLIN, Mo. — Shooting just after 6 p.m. leaves one man dead and another transported trauma to an area hospital.

Capt William Davis updates us live from the shooting scene at 5th and S Connor. He says the initial call was 6:07 p.m. regarding shots fired.

Witnesses tell us numerous shots fired and two people down.

Names are not being released at this time as detectives are just arriving.

However Capt Davis says they are developing information on a suspect or suspect vehicle. No one is in custody.

Shooting investigation west of Baxter Springs, Kan. overnight

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. — Detectives of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office are on the scene overnight investigating a shooting that sent one man to a Joplin hospital.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, April 18th, Cherokee County deputies were dispatched to a shooting west of Baxter Springs. Emergency medical personnel transported a man to a Joplin area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.” — Sheriff David Groves

Joplin Police investigate fatal shooting of 17-year-old girl, father is in custody

JOPLIN, Mo. — About 9:45 p.m. Sunday night Joplin 911 Emergency Dispatch were alerted to reports of a shooting at 310 S Connor. Joplin Police, Joplin Fire and METS ambulance responded emergency. 

Sgt Ketrina Jones of JPD on scene tells us a 17-year-old female victim had suffered a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a local hospital Priority One Trauma. She says there were multiple witnesses inside the residence when they shooting occurred. “We do have a suspect detained.”  She then emphasized they do not feel there is a further threat to the public. 

Capt William Davis updates us Monday morning saying the victim died this morning shortly after 8:00 a.m. He states in a release of information:

Todd J. Mayes, age 59 of Joplin shot his 17 year old daughter during a disturbance at the residence. Mayes was arrested and remains in custody in the Joplin City Jail. Investigators are currently working with the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on formal charges related to this incident. An autopsy is also currently being scheduled.”
