The Big Three: Mojo burger razed, chain reaction crash

BIG STORY #3: A Pineville, Mo., couple has been charged in federal court for their roles in the kidnapping and murder of a pregnant Arkansas woman. Amber Waterman, 42, and her husband, Jamie Waterman, 42, were charged in separate criminal complaints signed on Thursday, Nov. 3, and filed in the U.S. District Court in Springfield Friday, November 4, 2022. BIG STORY #2: The former Mojo Burger location at 702 S Maiden Lane has been razed. According to county records the property changed hands this past quarter paving the way for some changes on this SW corner of 7th and Maiden Lane on Route 66. The Big 3: fatal crash, multiple fires and Halloween displays

BIG STORY #3: Reports of multiple departments responding to a fire north of Columbus on the night of October 17th. Authorities say the single story residence was consumed by fire. Chief Steven Burton of Columbus Fire-Rescue says the single occupant of the home was lighting a propane heater. There was some sort of malfunction and fire erupted. The resident ran outside and shut off the tank but the home was already on fire. The resident suffered minor burns but refused medical care. Click here to read more about this story.

BIG STORY #2: Sgt. Andy Blair of the Joplin Police Department confirms that Saturday night, October 15, a fatal crash occurred where a Joplin teen was killed. The crash occurred at 11:21 p.m. near the intersection of Deer Drive and Dove Drive south of Grand Falls. The 1994 black Honda Civic vehicle had four occupants. Two occupants had been ejected from the vehicle, they were both rushed to Joplin hospitals. One sustained moderate injury and one was pronounced deceased at the hospital. BIG STORY #1: About 3:45 p.m. on October 15th,  reports of a structure fire at 233 CR180 in Brooklyn Heights alerted Jasper County Emergency 911. Authorities confirm the presence 0f residents in the house at the time, but there were two cats that are unaccounted for. When deputies arrived on the scene the two-story residence was fully engulfed. According to county records the residence sits on 8 acres, built in 1904. The Big 3: traffic stop shots fired, haunted attractions

BIG STORY #3: The former Miami Ford building, 521 North Main, is being demolished to make way for a new dealership. The building was erected by Charles Burtrum, “Home of Fine Automobiles” in 1948 and built in an Art Deco Style. Burtrum’s family also owned dealerships in the region.  According to family history in his early years, he and his brother, Joe, owned and operated the Burtrum Brothers Motor Company in Granby, Mo. He later owned the Chevrolet dealership in Paris, Texas. He owned and operated the Burtrum Lincoln-Mercury and the Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Dodge GMC dealerships. Burtrum passed away in April of 2005 at the age of 91 in Arizona. Click here for more information about this story.

BIG STORY #2: Monday evening, October 10, 2022 just before 8:45 p.m. reports of an SUV crash with a go-cart just west of the Belle Center Curve near Shade Tree Lane alerted Jasper County E-911. On the scene we learn a homemade go cart being driven by Dominic McKinley, 18, of Joplin, was struck by an SUV on West Belle Center.  He was rushed Priority One to an area hospital suffering moderate injuries. BIG STORY #1: About 9:30 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022 reports of police pursuing a silver pickup truck traveling south on Schifferdecker with shots fired from the pickup. Joplin Police say the incident began near 2623 W 7th St in Joplin. Officers responded to the area, where a possible DWI driver was located. JPD attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to yield to officers and fled southbound on Schifferdecker Ave. As the driver continued south, tire deflation spikes were successfully deployed. BIG STORY #3: Sheriff Chris Jennings states Newton County escapee Michael Durison, 39, is back in police custody. After following several tips Newton County Detectives and the Joplin Police Department took Durison into custody in a travel trailer located at 1808 West 20th, near 20th and McCoy, in Joplin. BIG STORY #2: Early Tuesday morning linemen from the Carthage area loaded up to head to Florida so they can respond immediately when Hurricane Ian weakens. “Lineman headed out bright & early this morning for Orlando, Florida to aid in the recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian,” Carthage Water and Electric in a media release. “We’re always proud when our crews are ready to answer the call to lend a hand in mutual aid situations such as this.” If you’d like to read more about these local linesmen, click here.

BIG STORY #1: Messages, calls, texts, videos started coming in about 8:15 p.m. Sunday evening to Joplin News First. On Saturday, September 24, 2022, SpaceX launched a Falcon rocket that released 52 new satellites to join the chain of thousands of that are known as STARLINK. The Big 3: fire engulfs apartment building, escapee still at large, 88 Strong pass it on and unclaimed lottery money

BIG STORY #3: JOPLIN, Mo. – Just after 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning Joplin E-911 Dispatch received multiple reports of an apartment building fire at 1921 E 9th. Flames were visible above the neighborhood that lies along the north side of the railroad tracks at 9th and Connecticut.  Kids in this neighborhood attend Eastmorland Elementary School. BIG STORY #2: WEBB CITY, Mo. – Inspired by the life of young Christian Heady who passed away from childhood cancer, the first ever 88 Strong Passing It On event kicked off in King Jack Park in Webb City. BIG STORY #1: NEOSHO, Mo. – An inmate escapes while receiving treatment at a Neosho, Missouri hospital. The Newton County sheriff’s office warns the public to be on the lookout for 41-year-old Michael Ray Durison, an inmate who escaped while being treated at Freeman Neosho. He is 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, has black hair, and hazel eyes. The sheriff’s office states he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and orange scrub bottoms. He possibly has no shoes. The Big Three: toddler’s body found, school bus versus SUV, 9/11 memorial and Pittsburg native goes #1 on National charts

BIG STORY #3 – The family of a 2-year-old boy who was found dead hours after disappearing from his home, has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral minimal funeral costs. BIG STORY #2 – Just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday reports of an SUV crashing with a Joplin School bus on E 7th alerted Jasper County E911. Duenweg Fire, Duquesne Police and METS responded. Joplin Police and Fire were requested as mutual aid. The crash was located just east of Katherine Ave. On scene we learn no children were injured. There were numerous onboard the bus. BONUS STORY – Jennifer Schott from Pittsburg, Kansas came home to perform in a fundraiser concert for Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States. It was a songwriters showcase concert at the new Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. It was an acoustic setting with Nashville songwriters performing their songs that other artists had made famous. The Big 3: dump truck crash and burn, fatal crash in Jasper county, stranger with candy and “Grease” is the word

BIG STORY #3: About 11:15 a.m. on August 8th, a dump truck went through a guardrail on I-44 near mile marker 10 in Joplin. The driver was not able to get out of the doors, so he climbed through the windshield just a short distance to the west on Outer road where a crew from Liberty Electric was working. They ran to the crash and used all their extinguishers to help with the fire. We have more on this story if you like to click here.

BIG STORY #2: About 1 p.m. on August 9th reports of a serious crash on Baseline Boulevard near Civil War road alerted Jasper county e911. Mark Tidball, 64, was driving a 1988 Freightliner pulling a lime spreader trailer west on Baseline Boulevard nearing CR150 when he went off the right side of the road. Jasper county coroner Randy Nace claimed the body about 2:15 p.m. Next of kin were notified. Click here if you would like more information about this story.

BIG STORY #1: Authorities are looking for a Grove, Oklahoma man who reportedly gave children candy and got personal information. According to the Crawford county sheriff’s office, on July 31st, they took a report of an older white male driving a white 2011 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. the man allegedly spoke with several male juveniles at a park in Cherokee, Kansas. They identified the man as Kirk William Owen from Grove, Oklahoma. the sheriff’s office released a photo of Owen. On august 3, at around 9:30 am, authorities say Owen returned and was drove by the same children’s home, however a neighbor stopped him. Owen was driving the same white corvette convertible. After the neighbor confronted him, Owen reportedly fled the area and has not been found. If you are interested in reading more about this story, click here.

BONUS STORY: 66 Drive-In theatre, 17231 Old 66 Boulevard, in Carthage this weekend is planning a throwback double-feature showing “Grease” and “Footloose”. Olivia Newton-John who starred in “Grease” in 1978 passed away on Monday at the age of 73. Here’s more information about movie times this weekend:

STORY 3: JOPLIN, Mo. – On Saturday, July 23rd, at about 8:20 a.m. a 35-year-old male was rushed to an area hospital suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Officers on patrol noticed a vehicle that seemed out of place near 25th and Annie Baxter. Officers approached the vehicle and noticed a male in the drivers seat apparently sleeping. They ran the tag posted in the back window and it came back stolen. Officers boxed the car in so it couldn’t flee the scene. The subject then began to ram both patrol vehicles, backing up and ramming forward. Authorities say officers went to break the vehicle’s windows and an officer involved shooting occurred. STORY 2: NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. – On Thursday, July 21st, at about 7 a.m. authorities respond to the scene of a head-on crash. One driver died at the scene; the other driver was flown to an area hospital, but died from injuries. If you are interested in reading more about this story, click here.

STORY 1: JOPLIN, Mo. – On Monday, July 25th, Joplin Fire responded to reports of  smoke and fire near 6 mile marker to the west of Kum and Go at 5002 S Main in Joplin. Redings Mill Fire, Carl Junction Fire and Duenweg Fire all joined the response. At one time reports were 6 brush trucks were working along Castle Drive where the fire jumped the roadway moving east towards Shoal Creek. BONUS STORY: JOPLIN, Mo. – On Saturday, July 23rd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers along with local Jasper County agencies conducted a traffic operation. MSHP, conducted an aggressive vehicle enforcement event focusing on impaired and careless drivers. Starting about 5 p.m.  Missouri State Highway Patrol had their helicopter above monitoring traffic. Explainer: What was in the sky tonight? Space X Falcon 9 lift off from Cape Canaveral

JOPLIN, Mo. – Many people saw above the sky this evening an odd looking, swirling cloud.  It was the trail of a SpaceX Falcon 9 COSMO SkyMed FM2 Mission that took off from Cape Canaveral in Florida.

This Falcon 9 rocket will launch an Italian observer satellite.

People across the Midwest were able to view it including here in the Joplin area.

Mountain Grove Fire Dept release details so people in their district know what was going on, “Exhaust left from the Space X launch in the atmosphere. If you have some photos fill free to share. These are from various places but it’s been seen across the US.”

You can watch it below on the Livestream of the launch from Space X.  The amazing thing to watch is not only lift off but also touchdown of the booster rockets.  They return to earth and land upright on the launch pad.
