News To Know: record voting numbers, Big Fish

WASHINGTON— The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that U.S. Army Air Forces Staff Sergeant David E. Holeman, 39, of Le Harpe, Kansas, who was captured and died as a prisoner of war during World War II, was accounted for August 23, 2022. To read more about this coming home, click here.

JOPLIN, Mo. — The midterm elections are finally over but it was one for the record books for Jasper County. Out of 81,907 registered voters in Jasper County 34,903 ballots were cast. That means 42.67 % voted. It was the 3rd largest turnout for a November election ever in Jasper County.

NEOSHO, Mo. –The 20th Annual Crowder College Foundation Festival of Wreaths took place Tuesday evening at 5:00 P.M. The event began with a silent auction in Longwell Museum located inside the Elsie Plaster Community Center on the Neosho campus. PITTSBURG, Ks.— Students at Pittsburg High School are putting the final touches on their newest theater presentation “Big Fish”. The musical is based on a celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace as well as a movie by Tim Burton.

Chef Anthony turns pasta into ravioli

If it’s Thursday you know Chef Anthony hit the KOAM studio with another quick and easy and, most importantly, tasty recipe. First up, the Chef shows us how to make the pasta with just a few simple ingredients…as simple as all-purpose flour, two eggs, some olive oil and salt as needed.

Next up comes the sauce for the ravioli, and once again Chef Anthony keeps it simple and tasty with just a few ingredients: canned or crushed tomatoes; garlic cloves, crushed peppercorns, and thyme and rosemary if you prefer. Add a pinch of salt and sugar to taste and this recipe is ready to go. We’ve got all three segments for you to check out and enjoy some homemade raviolis tonight!

Chef Anthony makes noodle dishes pho and Ramen

Chef Anthony heads back into the studio to cook up some super easy and super delicious noodle dishes. First up is everyone’s favorite, Ramen. Don’t let this humble noodle fool you – with just a few small extra ingredients, you can turn these noodles into a complete meal.

 

Up next, Chef Anthony prepares pho, a hearty and delicious Vietnamese soup made from rice noodles. This time around, Chef Anthony steps it up with the addition of some sautéed vegetables and chicken stock.

Chef Anthony talks barbecue competition and chops up an amazing salad

Chef Anthony Fischer sits down with Tawnya Bach to talk about the Smokin’ In The Jungle barbecue competition and had some of the prizes on hand, such as a beautiful hand-crafted knife. Not only will plenty of great barbecue be on display, but the event serves as a fundraiser to benefit the Pittsburg High School Culinary Dragons and a trip to Italy in 2023. Once again Chef Anthony Fischer from the Pittsburg High School fires up the KOAM studio with another terrific recipe. First up he wanted to inform viewers about an upcoming barbecue competition. If you think you’ve got what it takes to be the king of the jungle, here’s all the information you need to know:

  • Proceeds go to the PHS Culinary Dragons to help fund a trip to send the kids to Italy next summer

  • Select your cook-site on Friday the 24th – Judging starts at 2:00 pm on the 25th!

  • 2 White Cake Mixes
  • 1 Family box of favorite jello
  • 2 Containers of cool whip

Chef Anthony Fischer dropped by the KOAM studio with one of his students, Caroline Haake, with a very special recipe for Nana’s apple pie. If you want to experience some delicious homemade apple pie made by Caroline’s Nana, here’s how to make the crust first:

  • 1 cup of Crisco
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 Tablespoon of salt
  • Half cup of cold water

And all you need for the filling is:

  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1 and a half cups of sugar
  • Quarter cup flour
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch
  • Half tablespoon cinnamon
  • Several pats of butter

Chef Anthony Fischer dropped by the KOAM studio to prepare some homemade marshmallows. It’s always a treat when the chef is in the house but today he brought some specialists with him — a couple of his Pittsburg High School culinary students. They prepared two super easy and super fun homemade marshmallow recipes that you and your family will want to try at home. Here’s all you need to know:

  • One cup of water, divided
  • 2 envelopes (21 grams) of unflavored gelatin
  • 2 cups caster sugar
  • 1 half cup light corn syrup or glucose syrup
  • 1 half teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
  • About two cups icing sugar to coat marshmallows

Another great thing about this recipe is it’s egg-free, gluten-free and vegan friendly!
