Jamestown Neighborhood residential structure fire in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just before 11 p.m. Friday night reports of a structure fire at 2720 S Highland in the Jamestown Neighborhood alerted Joplin E-911.

Joplin Fire Dept, Joplin Police Dept and METS ambulance responded.

Upon arrival Joplin Fire observed, “Fire and smoke on the alpha side…” The fire was under control quickly not requiring a hose lay to a hydrant.

On scene we observed that fire damage through a broken window and interior overhaul work by Joplin Firefighters.

We learn from Battalion Chief Mike Redshaw there were two occupants of the residence. They were displaced as utilities to the residence were cut.

He says they requested the Red Cross to assist the two and a dog. “No one was injured,” B.C. Redshaw said.

The Joplin Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire. We anticipate learning more in the coming days.

W 7th St closed as Joplin Fire extinguish house fire

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just before 3:40 a.m. Sunday reports of flames coming from a residence, 630 S Porter, alerted Joplin Emergency 911.

Joplin Police, METS ambulance and Joplin Fire Dept responded.

Joplin Fire Command stated on arrival, “Residential structure heavy fire on the alpha side, we’ll be out for attack.”

Everyone was out safely. This residence is on the NW corner of 7th and Porter, two blocks from McDonalds at 7th and Maiden Lane. West 7th traffic was diverted as fire trucks and personnel used the street surrounding the house. 

THIS RESIDENCE IS ON THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF JOPLIN’S GRAY NEIGHBORHOOD. SEE THE ONE JOPLIN NEIGHBORHOOD MAP.

As we arrived the active flames were out but you could see the fire was so intense it melted the siding on the house neighboring to the north. Also damaged was a vehicle in the driveway.

Fire was under control at 4:01 a.m. less than 20 minutes after the initial call.

The damage to the residence is extensive, Liberty Utilities and Spire Gas were notified to turn off utilities to the structure.

“Fire through the roof,” first JFD units report from Joplin’s East Town Neighborhood

JOPLIN, Mo. — Friday just before 2:15 p.m. reports of fire in the 1600 block east 3rd alerted Joplin E911.

Joplin Fire responded sounding a second alarm for more manpower, METS ambulance and Joplin Police were on their way too.

Joplin Police tell us on scene they didn’t realize how windy it was, as the flames extended 25 feet into into the air, and smoke plumed across East 3rd.

1626 E 3rd is directly south of the Boys & Girls Club of SWMO. 

Neighbors tell us everyone was out of the house at 1626 E 3rd, directly across from the Boys and Girls Club.

“Fire through the roof,” first Joplin Fire units report cracked through our P25 digital trunking scanner. Then Joplin Fire was out for defensive attack as East 3rd Command was established.

This single-story wood frame residence is owned by Joplin Housing Authority. It’s the second housing authority home to burn in the last two weeks.

Two weeks ago a duplex fire in the Leonard Park Neighborhood displaced two tenants. Repairs are still being made there in the 400 block of Ozark.

Joplin Fire Marshal is on scene along with Chief Gerald Ezell and Dep. Chief Andy Nimmo.

Crash with commercial vehicle in Joplin’s Eastmorland Neighborhood

JOPLIN, Mo. – Friday morning just before 9:30 a.m. Joplin Dispatch were alerted to reports of a crash at 15th and S Highview involving three vehicles.

Joplin Fire Dept, Joplin Police Dept and METS ambulance responded emergency.

On the scene we learn from Cpl Tim Hudson of JPD the crash involved a commercial vehicle and two passenger cars.

One vehicle required Joplin Fire to perform a small “door pop”, also known as an extrication, as one person was trapped inside a vehicle.

Cpl Hudson says two people were transported non-emergency to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Chuck’s Towing removed one vehicle from the scene.  The other two were able to drive away on their own power.

Office building, two alarm fire, Gabby Street Neighborhood of Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. — Saturday morning just before 9 a.m. Joplin Police officer on patrol noticed smoke coming from an office building, 1600 block of W 29th.

Joplin Dispatch alerted Joplin Fire and METS ambulance to respond.

Joplin Fire upon arrival sounded a second alarm for a working fire.

Hose was laid from the intersection of McClelland Blvd and W 29th closing that street to the west. The property is located NW of Henkle’s Ace Hardware West. Click here for map. 

Fire was declared under control at 9:32 a.m.

The office building has no signage to signal occupancy. It is located in the Gabby Street Neighborhood according to the ONE JOPLIN Neighborhood Map.

Fire was declared out at 9:59 a.m.

Carport and cars burn at Mayflower Apartments in historic Murphysburg Neighborhood

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just before 9 p.m. Joplin Dispatch were alerted with reports of a fire in the 500 block S Moffett.

Joplin Fire, Joplin Police and METS ambulance responded.

Witnesses on our tipline contacting Joplin News First reported an explosion or “pop” and flames broke out under a carport behind the Mayflower Apartments, 602 W 5th, in the Historic Murphysburg Neighborhood.

An unknown amount of vehicles under the long carport of the building were on fire in the alley. The fire spread to the carport roof. 

No firefighters were injured.

Joplin Fire are investigating the cause of the fire.
