Frigid Temperatures, Dangerous Wind Chills, Ice Storm and Heavy Snow Across The U.S.

The weather theme for much of the U.S. the rest of this week and weekend will be bitterly cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills, especially in the Central third of the U.S. This extensive arctic air mass will contribute to a few winter events. Ice and snow are likely from the southern Plains to Mid-Atlantic, Wednesday through Friday, and a winter storm will also impact the West late week.

A Wintry Week Featuring An Arctic Air Mass

Winter is gripping much of the U.S. this week as an arctic air mass with frigid temperatures is entrenched over the Central U.S. and will expand into the South and Northwest. Snow is expected to move through the Northeast and New England on Tuesday and an extensive area of snow and freezing rain is expected to setup from the southern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic over the next several days

Frigid Arctic Airmass; Developing Ice and Snow Concerns by Mid-Week

An arctic air mass will remain over the Central U.S. this week with frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chills. This air mass will gradually expand into the Gulf Coast states and Northwest U.S. by late this week. A significant ice and snow event could develop by midweek from the southern Plains into the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys to the East Coast impacting travel and commerce.
