  • Center-cut Ahi Tuna fillet
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 6 tablespoons aged balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove (peeled and halved)
  • 3/4 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 and 1/2 tablespoon black pepper, fresh

News to Know: Flags remain at half staff until internment, Joplin businesses show support for law enforcement

JOPLIN, Mo. – Joplin Mayor Ryan Stanley orders all city flags to be flown at half staff in honor of the late Corporal Ben Cooper. According to Mayor Stanley, the flags will remain this way “until the internment of the fallen”.

JOPLIN, Mo. – A Joplin patrol car sitting outside the Joplin Police Department is a solemn reminder of sacrifice and site of a growing tribute to Corporal Cooper. Over the past 24 hours, people have been bringing flowers to place on the car as they share their grief and honor the fallen officer. Those who knew Cooper point out he was more than an officer, he was a friend and family man. His passing is hard on the community and especially on other first responders and their families. Joplin paramedic Dylan Mills, who is a father as well, was among those who came by to pay tribute.

JOPLIN, Mo. – A lot of area businesses are showing their support for the police department in other ways during this unthinkable time. They include the Beaten Path Coffee Company of South Main Street. The company is offering free food and drinks to members of the Joplin Police Department. It will provide the free service to police through the month of March.

JOPLIN, Mo. – Both Starbucks locations in Joplin will also offer free hot or iced coffee or hot chocolate to all local law enforcement. Charlie Brown, Manager at the Starbucks on 32nd, says it’s simply a way of paying back.

News to Know: Joplin community mourns after a fatal police shooting, Woman identified in Pittsburg death investigation, and Mcdonald Co. seniors learn to adult

JOPLIN, Mo. – A somber night in the 4-States. Community members gathered at Joplin’s Cunningham Park Tuesday evening for a vigil following Tuesday afternoon’s deadly shootings. A Joplin police officer and suspect are dead. Two other officers are in the hospital, one in critical condition, one listed as serious but stable.  Find out the latest details on this developing story here.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Police release the name of the woman whose body was found in a house Monday on 4th street in Pittsburg. Authorities say Misty Watson Sorenson had not been heard from in days. Detectives are treating her death as a possible homicide. Investigators are awaiting an autopsy report. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Scene Response Team is helping with the case, along with investigators from the Crawford County Sheriff and member agencies of the Tri-State Major Case Squad.  Read the full report here.

ANDERSON, Mo. – High school seniors in McDonald County got the chance to take a break from academics and learn how to adult instead. Senior Day Adulting 101 gave students the chance to learn some essential skills to function in the real world. Skills like registering to vote, creating a resume, applying for your first apartment and more. People from all over the community volunteered their time to teach various workshops. Jasmine Kyle introduces a furry friend looking for a forever home

Jasmine Kyle from the SEK Humane Society dropped by the KOAM studio with Apollo – one of the many animals up for adoption at the shelter. For those who’d like to help out but are unable to adopt, the shelter always needs volunteers and foster families. Another way to help out is through the Doggie Bag Retail Shop. All proceeds from the Doggie Bag help fund the SEK Humane Society. During her interview with Tawnya Bach, Jasmine announced big news for the Doggie Bag: the grand opening of their new location at 514 North Broadway in Pittsburg. The grand opening takes place this Saturday, March the 12th.

News to Know: Crawford County cracks down on school bus violations, and PSU celebrates Apple Day

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. – The Crawford County Sheriff’s office says it’s seen a rise in people going around stopped school buses with their stop signs engaged. In response, the sheriff’s office will be cracking down. Deputies will be out patrolling school bus routes and issuing violations, which can each total more than $400 after a fine and court costs. PITTSBURG, Kan. – A ribbon-cutting on Monday marked the completion of a renovation of the original Broadway entrance to Pitt State’s Russ Hall. The original entrance was build in 1940. PITTSBURG, Kan. – A number of events celebrate Apple Day at Pitt State, including the traditional apple dessert contest. Apple day is the university’s longest-running tradition. While Monday was Apple Day at Pitt State for faculty and students, for alumni and community members it was also Giving Day. It’s a 24-hour campaign encouraging alumni and people in the community to give back to the university. News to Know: Parsons police look for bar shooting suspect, and authorities releases the names of those in a fatal weekend crash in Joplin

PARSONS, Kan. – Authorities respond to a shooting at a bar in Parsons, Kansas over the weekend. On Saturday, just before 2:00am officers were called to the Somewhere Else bar at 2106 Crawford Avenue. One person was found shot and taken to Labette health. David Lamont Young the Third is wanted for questioning in the incident. Young has ties to Parsons, Erie, the Crawford County area, Kansas City, and Topeka. Young was also reported to be in the company of Raymond Rigazio. JOPLIN, Mo. – Authorities release the names of the people involved in a serious car crash in southwest Joplin. About 4:00pm on Saturday afternoon Joplin dispatch were alerted to a two vehicle crash near Love’s along Coyote Drive. Joplin Fire and Police responded alongside Newton County Ambulance. 25-year-old Jonathan Beavers of Joplin was killed in the car crash. In the the other vehicle both 47-year old Melody Kelly, of Seneca, and her 14-year old passenger were taken to the hospital. IOLA, Kan. – A LaHarpe, Kansas woman is officially charged in the death of a baby boy. Allen County Attorney Jerry Hathaway says the crime, happened in January. Now, following an autopsy he says he’s received the evidence he needs to charge Rebecca Dobbs with First-Degree Murder, Felony Murder, and Aggravated Child Endangerment. The attorney did not release more details about what happened that led to the boy’s death. Read more about the case here.

OLATHE, Kan. – On Friday authorities say a suspect shot and wounded a school resource officer and an administrator in Olathe, Kansas. Olathe Police say the shooting happened in the “office area” at Olathe East High School. The school’s resource officer shot the suspect, who they believe is a student at the high-school. Frontenac Theatre Department talks “The Little Mermaid Jr.”

Frontenac, KS — Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” is coming to Frontenac Theatre. Seth Harley stops by the studio with Abby Albright who stars as the main character Ariel to talk about what goes into a theatre production.

 

The play is held at Frontenac High School (201 S. Crawford St. in Frontenac). There are three different show times for you to attend:

 

  • Sunday — March 6th, 2:30 PM
  • Monday — March 7th, 7:00 PM
  • Tuesday — March 8th, 7 PM

Tickets are five dollars at the door and exact change is encouraged.
