PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg Fire Chief Dennis Reilly announces his retirement. Reilly has served in the fire service for more than 40 years. PITTSBURG, Kan. – Thursday October 20th will now be known as “Project Warmth Day” in Pittsburg. Mayor Cheryl Brooks recognized the event with its own day. Project Warmth started with as a way to help people with utilities in Crawford County as temperatures start to drop. Funds are distributed through catholic charities and the salvation army and volunteers are always welcomed.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – PSU hosts a conference to discuss the outlook of the local economy. Officials say the local economy relies on the status of the national economy. However, Pittsburg economists are optimistic about growth within city. Officials expect both the Pittsburg and the state economy to grow.

MIAMI, Okla. – The Miami police chief and the Miami drone team were at Wyandotte high school on Tuesday. According to Miami Police Chief Thomas Anderson, the Department utilizes drones for a variety of law enforcement needs. The drones have proven invaluable to local law enforcement. For example, recently on a call officers encountered a suicidal man who ran into a wooded area. Using the drone, officers were able to locate the man quickly and flush him out of the woods within minutes with no injuries or incidents. Click here to read more about this story.

Miami Okla, Police arrest convicted Child Molester, who was ID’d talking to kids at a Kansas park


MIAMI, Okla.
— Thursday September 8, 2022, Miami Police Officers assisted by BIA (Bureau Indian Affairs) and Ottawa County Sheriff’s office arrested a man wanted on a probation revocation warrant.

Kirk William Owen has been a topic of KOAM News Now stories lately as the Crawford County Kansas Sheriff’s office released an image of Owen’s car and description of an encounter with children at a Cherokee, Kansas public park in August of 2022.

Miami Okla. Police detail information regarding Owen, stating he was arrested Thursday for a motion to revoke warrant from Beaver County, Okla. Owens was on probation with a 20 year sentence for lewd molestation of a child.

“Owen raised the attention of investigators due to a current case of enticing a minor. Owen had an extensive criminal history spanning 20 years, during our local investigation Detectives were able to relay violations of the terms of his probation to Beaver County resulting in the issuance of the revocation warrant.” — MIAMI OKLA. POLICE

Additionally we learn search warrant was served on Owens Grove, Okla. residence. Police say, “further criminal charges are anticipated upon the completion of the investigation.”

Chinese citizen living in Miami, killed in hit and run

MIAMI, Okla. — Saturday night about 10:30 p.m. Miami 911 Dispatch were alerted with reports of a man down in the roadway, 1200 block of Steve Owens Blvd, near Vapor Maven.

Miami Police Dept responded. Officers located a male who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. The man later was pronounced at an area hospital.

“The vehicle had left the scene. The male victim was treated by Integris ambulance personnel and the scene secured.” — Miami PD

Crash investigators and detectives processed the area as a crime scene tipsters tell us.

Now Monday more information is released as next of kin are notified.

“The individual identified as Quang Xin Ye (58) of Miami. Quang was a citizen of China residing in Miami,” MPD state in a release of information.

Miami Police are seeking information from any witness of the incident. They ask you contact Det Johnson at 918-542-5585.
