Joplin Police retired K9 Pax dies unexpectedly

JOPLIN, Mo. — Sunday, May 15, designated as National Police Dog Day. And Joplin Police release somber news as one of their retired K9 has died.

“The Joplin Police Department is sad to announce the unexpected passing of retired JPD K9 Pax earlier this morning.”

Pax was purchased from F&M K-9 then trained by Travis Walthall of Patriot K-9 Training. Pax began his career in June of 2014.

Some of his stats include:

  • 520 vehicle searches
  • 100 building searches for suspects
  • 66 tracks
  • 40 suspect apprehensions
  • 1631.8 grams meth
  • 63 grams cocaine
  • 8 grams heroin
  • 27 SWAT operations

Pax would have been 12 years old this year. Joplin Police say, “Thank you Pax for your service to our community.  You will be greatly missed!”
