Female struck by car; Fatal crash investigation along MO-171

JOPLIN, Mo. — Early Thursday, December 8, at 6:13 a.m. area first-responders were alerted to a fatal traffic crash involving a female pedestrian near MO-171 and Swede Lane in the eastbound lanes.

Capt William Davis updates information on a media release, “She has been identified as Cheyanne Funk, age 22 of Joplin. Next of kin has been notified. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was not injured. Members of the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team are actively investigating the crash.”

EARLIER INFORMATION

Cpl Sean Higgins of the Joplin Police Dept tells KOAM’s Shannon Becker the adult female was pronounced deceased on the scene. “She was attempting to cross the highway.”

JPD Sgt Jared Delzell says their Major Crash Team is investigating.

The driver was not impaired. The driver was not arrested.

Numerous agencies responded to the scene including MoDOT Emergency Response, Joplin Fire Dept, Joplin Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jasper County Deputies, Webb City Fire, Webb City Police.

Traffic is being affected by MO-171 lane closures:

  • MO-171 East of Stone’s Corner Roundabout
  • MO-171 West of St. Louis/Prairieflower Road

Joplin Police Major Crash Team investigation, I-44 near Rangline

JOPLIN, Mo. — About 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022 reports of a crash along I-44 near the Rangeline exit alerted Joplin E-911.

Joplin Fire Dept, Joplin Police, METS and Newton County Ambulance responded.

Single vehicle rollover crash.

Sgt Jared Delzell of the Joplin Police Major Crash Team tells KOAM’s Shannon Becker they marked the crash scene for investigation.

Expect delays in the westbound lanes approaching Rangeline at 9MM, traffic back up is about 3 miles long.

There is no update on those involved in the crash.

MoDOT Emergency Response and Missouri State Highway Patrol are assisting with traffic.

We will update information as soon as it becomes appropriately available.

 

Pedestrian killed in crash, Joplin Police Major Crash Team investigate

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just before 3 a.m. Joplin E-911 were alerted to a crash on North Main just south of the Zora overpass.

Joplin Police, Joplin Fire and METS ambulance responded.

All traffic north and south on N Main was closed immediately:

  • Closed at North Main and Murphy Blvd
  • Closed at North Main and Zora

On scene Cpl Sean Higgins of the Joplin Police Dept tells us a northbound pickup struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

The pedestrian was deceased.

The JPD Major Crash Team was summoned for investigation as they utilized their FARO crash mapping system.

Cpl Higgins tells us the driver of the pickup was not impaired and not arrested.

No names are being released at this time.

The Jasper County Deputy Coroner arrived about 5:30 a.m. to claim the body.

The pickup was towed.

All traffic resumed about 6:30 a.m.

Joplin teen killed in crash near Grand Falls

JOPLIN, Mo. — Sgt Andy Blair of the Joplin Police Dept confirms with us that Saturday night, October 15, 2022 a fatal crash occurred where a Joplin teen was killed.

The crash occurred at 11:21 p.m. near the intersection of Deer Drive and Dove Drive south of Grand Falls.

Sgt Blair says it was a single vehicle crash.

The 1994 black Honda Civic vehicle had four occupants.

Two occupants had been ejected from the vehicle, they were both rushed to Joplin hospitals. One sustained moderate injury and one was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Two other occupants had minor injuries.

“No identification information is being released at this time pending further investigation,” Sgt Blair states in a media release.

All occupants were juveniles.

Sports bike crashes into vehicle, Joplin Police Major Crash Team investigate

JOPLIN, Mo. — About 8:15 p.m. Wednesday  evening, September 28, 2022, reports of a crash between a sports bike and a vehicle on East Newman Road alerted Joplin Emergency 911.

Joplin Fire, Joplin Police and METS ambulance responded.

Immediately the westbound lanes of East Newman were closed at Goetz Blvd.

On scene we learn the man operating the motorcycle was transported trauma to an area hospital.

The female driver of a passenger car was not injured.

The Joplin Police Major Crash Team responded for investigation using using their FARO crash mapping system.

Sgt Jared Delzell leads the crash team. He tells us the eastbound sports bike collided with the passenger vehicle that was pulling from a private drive.

“Speed was a factor,” he says. Numerous witnesses said the bike was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The roadway remained closed till 11 p.m. as Santa Fe Towing then arrived to remove the crashed vehicles.

No names of those involved are released at this time.

Carthage teen charged in DWI crash that killed his friend

JOPLIN, Mo. — On July 16th, 2022 at 2:01 am the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received information of a a single vehicle injury crash near Grand Falls in Joplin.

The vehicle with three male occupants overturned, ejecting individual(s). Two males were transported to a hospital. Keenan A. Reed died at the scene.

CRASH LOCATION ON RIVERSIDE DRIVE IN JOPLIN, MO.  

DRIVER ARRESTED

Friday, July 22, officers of the Joplin Police Dept 2022 arrested the driver, Joseph C. Hill, 19-year-old male of of Carthage.

During the investigation it was found the driver was operating the vehicle in an intoxicated condition.

Fatal crash near Grand Falls, Joplin Police Major Crash Team investigate

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just after 2 a.m. early Saturday morning reports of an overturned vehicle to the west of Grand Falls on Riverside Drive alerted Joplin E911.

Joplin Police, Joplin Fire, Redings Mill Fire, Newton County Ambulance and METS ambulance responded.

On scene we learn two people were transported to area hospitals.

APPROXIMATE CRASH LOCATION, GOOGLE MAPS.  USE TWO FINGERS TO NAVIGATE. 

“Two occupants were rushed to a local hospital with one occupant being listed in serious condition and the other in stable condition with moderate injuries.  A third occupant was determined to be deceased at the scene of the crash,” Joplin Police state in a release of information.

The victim is not being identified at this time pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.

Newton County Deputy Coroner Jerry Deems arrived to claim body about 3:30 a.m.

The roadway was closed as crash investigators began to arrive about 3 a.m.

Joplin Police Major Crash Team investigate crash involving Newton Co. Sheriff Deputy

JOPLIN, Mo. — Shortly after 2 a.m. reports of a person on a bicycle struck in the roadway by a vehicle near E 32nd near S Finley.

On the scene Sgt Thomas Bowin of the Joplin Police Dept tells us a “motorized bicycle” and a Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy Tahoe collided, both were traveling eastbound.

The bicycle operator was transported to an area hospital. Assistant Police Chief Brian Lewis updated information Thursday  afternoon saying the male was listed in serious condition.

The Joplin Police Major Crash Team assembled at 3:15 a.m. using their FARO crash mapping system. This required the entire roadway to clear except for the motorized bicycle and the Deputy vehicle.

NEWTON CO SHERIFF CHRIS JENNINGS STATEMENT

On July 7, 2022, at approximately 2:02AM, a Newton County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle operated by a deputy struck a bicyclist while traveling eastbound on East 32nd Street in Joplin.

The deputy was responding to a burglary alarm call. The bicyclist was traveling eastbound on 32nd St in the outside lane at the time of impact. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital.

A crash investigation is being conducted by the Joplin Police Department.

No further details are being released at this time.

I-44 shut down for Joplin Police Major Crash Team investigation

UPDATE: I-44 east was reopened to all traffic just before 6 a.m. as it was closed nearly 3 1/2 hours for investigation by the JPD Major Crash Team. We will continually update this article with more details as they are released by authorities. — Shannon Becker

JOPLIN, Mo. — Just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning reports of traffic halted along I-44 east near 4.5 mile marker alerted Joplin Emergency Dispatch to a crash.

MoDot Emergency Response has closed I-44 East at exit 4. All traffic eastbound on I-44 must exit at Petro/Loves.

Sgt Jared Delzell of the Joplin Police Dept tells us they hope to have the road reopened before 6 a.m.

  • EXIT 4 PETRO/LOVE’S
  • DETOUR — Tractor trailer north Coyote to 32nd Street east. Then Main Street south to I-44 east.
  • DETOUR — small passenger vehicles south to Dutch Elm. East to MO-86 then north to I-44 east.

The Joplin Police Major Crash Team have been summoned to the crash scene.

This will be an hours-long shutdown of the interstate eastbound.

Just before 4 a.m. the Newton County Coroner arrived to the scene.
