Mojo Burger aka Babe’s aka Taco Tico is coming down

JOPLIN, Mo. — Recently plans have been made to raze the former Mojo Burger location at 702 S Maiden Lane.

Big John’s Roll Off and Dumpster have been contracted by the private owners to remove the building. They have been working on the site for a while as they prepare to bring it down.

702 S MAIDEN LANE, JOPLIN MO 64801

According to county records the property changed hands this past quarter paving the way for some changes on this SW corner of 7th and Maiden Lane on Route 66.

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 workers with Big John’s Roll Off began taking off the exterior stucco of the original structure design as a Taco Tico, built sometime in the 1980s.

This is also where local favorite ‘ Mojo the Cow’ was recently located. He has been missing since earlier 2022.

Now Thursday the building will come down completely.

Sources close to Starbucks Coffee tell us it will be a new location in 2023. Additionally Starbucks expanding in the market at 1400 S Madison, Webb City. However that is not confirmed.

Both Webb City and the west side of Joplin had Starbucks Coffee in the past. Both inside Price Cutter locations, but both grocery stores closed in recent years.

KOAM has left messages with corporate contacts and have not heard back as of news time.

In the 1970s a gas station was located here and then a fast food restaurant that served Broasted Chicken. In the 1980s Taco Tico built the building, thus the odd stucco shaped exterior. Babe’s owned and operated here for years. Then most recently it was Mojo Burger, which closed.
