Person struck by vehicle in Galena, Kan., MedFlight trauma to hospital

GALENA, Kan. – Tuesday evening shortly after 7 p.m. reports of a pedestrian behind struck by a vehicle in the 2200 block of Wood alerted Cherokee County E-911.

Galena Fire Dept, Galena Police Dept, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies and Cherokee County Ambulance responded.

On the scene we learn the person struck (pedestrian) suffered traumatic injuries.  LifeFlight was summoned to a landing zone at the Galena High School practice field. Our live video captures LifeFlight taking off about 8 p.m.

The vehicle was driven from the crash scene. The driver was not injured.

Pickup overturns in serious crash in Galena, Kan.

GALENA, Kan. — Tuesday afternoon Cherokee County Emergency Dispatch were alerted to reports of a serious crash on the west side of Galena near 7th and Schermerhorn.

Galena Fire Dept, Galena Police and EMS were dispatched.

On scene Galena Police tell us it was a single vehicle crash, a pickup, one occupant, the driver.

Officers say the pickup was traveling eastbound on 7th, crossed all lanes of oncoming traffic, then went off-road and struck two culverts, overturning.

The driver was transported to Freeman West in Joplin with unknown injuries.

McCarley’s Towing of Pittsburg, Kan. were summoned to remove the crash and large amount of debris from the overturned pickup.

Riverton, Kan. woman arrested on allegations of drug possession

GALENA, Kan. — Late Thursday evening Galena Police performed a stop on a Chevrolet Blazer for a traffic violation.

After contacting the driver, the officer was able to establish probable cause to search the vehicle,” Galena Police Dept states in a release of information. “During a search of the vehicle, suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were located.”

Kimberly Vanauker, 31, of Riverton, Kansas arrested on allegations of the following:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • No Insurance

Vanauker was transported to the Cherokee County Jail. She is being held on a $7,500 bond.
