Tow truck driver, 18, killed in crash on I-44 at Joplin, next of kin notified

JOPLIN, Mo. – Capt William Davis of the Joplin Police Dept releases more details regarding the fatal tow truck crash on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

“Tuesday about 9:20 am, the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received report of a a single vehicle rollover crash near Interstate 44 just east of Rangeline Road. Officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to the scene along with the Joplin Fire Department, METS Ambulance Service, Newton County Ambulance District, and MoDOT Emergency Response. Officers located a 2003 Chevrolet tow truck upside down in the ditch near the shoulder of the roadway.”

The driver, Bradley E. Skaggs, age 18 of Lanagan, Missouri, was the only occupant of the vehicle and was ejected during the crash. He did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Newton County Coroner.

Next of kin has been notified.

Members of the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team responded to the scene and are still continuing their investigation at this time.

Driver killed in I-44 tractor trailer rollover crash

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Mo. — About 8 p.m. Friday evening, April 15,  reports near Mount Vernon regarding a tractor trailer overturned blocking all westbound lanes of I-44.

First responders were dispatched emergency along with Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.

The tractor trailer had crashed to its side on the I-44 overpass of State Route H, spilling its load of fresh vegetables across the overpass, damaging guardrails on each side.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Tpr Sam Carpenter confirms to us the driver was killed in the crash. Name is being withheld as next of kin notification is still in process.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit (MCIU) of Troop D responded to map the crash for investigation, which is protocol in a fatality crash.

M&M Wrecker assisted in recovery of the crash, cleared about 1 a.m. Saturday morning. MoDOT immediately responded after the crash was cleared to make guardrail repairs.
