Rachel Lambert — the market director for the symphony — made her way down to the studio. She shared with us what’s upcoming at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts in Springfield.

Christmas at Bartley: The Lighting of the Duenweg Christmas Tree

DUENWEG, Mo. — The inaugural lighting of the City of Duenweg Christmas Tree with Santa at Bartley Memorial Park is Saturday evening, 6 p.m. December 3, 2022.

Everyone receives a free Christmas Tree Ornament marking the occasion.

“The first 200 guests will receive an ornament for attending this year’s Christmas at Bartley,” state the Duenweg Parks Board.

Free hot chocolate and cookies, and a reminder to parents, bring your camera or phone to take pictures of your kids with Santa.

Bartley Memorial Park is located behind Casey’s, 8084 East 7th, Duenweg, Mo.

Pittsburg area women honored for achievements

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Area women are honored in Pittsburg this morning for their achievements.

The award ceremony took place at the Pittsburg State University Overman Student Center. The Pittsburg Area Chambers of Commerce hosted the event.

The breakfast was served to honor the 2023 Women of Distinction and this year’s Kaye Lynne Webb Influential Woman in Business Award winner, Brandee Johnson.

Brandee Johnson to Receive Kaye Lynne Webb Award

“The Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that Pittsburg entrepreneur and business leader Brandee Johnson will receive this year’s “Kaye Lynne Webb Influential Woman in Business” award. The award will be presented at the chamber’s annual Women in Business event on Friday, December 2, at the Pittsburg State University Overman Student Center.

Following a distinguished 15-year career working for leading brands in national and global corporations, Johnson launched LimeLight Marketing in the fall of 2015. In doing so, Johnson created the only digital marketing firm in Southeast Kansas. In just seven years, LimeLight has amassed scores of clients both locally and nationally, and now boasts a team of almost 30 professionals serving companies and organizations around the globe from their newly renovated headquarters in downtown Pittsburg. This success garnered LimeLight Marketing the 2021 Kansas Woman-Owned Business Professional Service Firm of the Year award from the Kansas Department of Commerce, Office of Minority & Women Business Development, and put them on the 2022 Inc. 5000 list.

Johnson has also remained extremely engaged in the community, serving as board chairwoman for the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce and as a board member for the Pittsburg State University Kelce College of Business. Arvest Foundation grants a $9k check to local police department

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. – Arvest Bank representatives presented a $9,000 check to the Carl Junction Police Department on behalf of the Arvest Foundation.

Police will use the funds to help buy necessary supplies and trauma medical kits. They can fasten then to officers’ vests in the event of an active shooter situation.

The Arvest Foundation aims to reward individuals who are actively striving to improve the lives of others.

Major areas of focus include:

  • K-12 education
  • Economic development
  • Enhancing the quality of life throughout the Arvest footprint

Carl Junction and its upcoming Christmas parade

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Cavanaugh Studyvin stops by our studio to talk about the upcoming Christmas parade in the city. Hosted by the Carl Junction Lions Club — the theme for the parade is “a small-town Christmas.”  If you’d like to attend the parade it is on December 4th at 2 PM on Carl Junction’s Main Street.

Ice Skating and more: 2nd Annual Hometown Holidays on the Carthage Square

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The 2nd Annual Carthage Hometown Holidays is underway. This year hours are different, the ice rink is larger and pricing is lower.

Open Friday & Saturdays thru December 24th from 4:30 p.m. — 10:30 p.m.

Outside of normal Friday and Saturday hours, Monday evening Dec 5 they open during Carthage Christmas Tree Lighting and the Carthage Christmas Parade.

The Christmas Light Tunnel is open every evening for photos on the south side of the square.

Joplin’s first ever JoMo GameCon

JOPLIN, Mo. — An event for those that love video games is coming to Joplin this weekend: Joplin’s first-ever JoMo GameCon! It started with an event held by the youth pastor at Celebration Joplin. What started out as a LAN party bloomed into a first-ever GameCon! With games, cosplay, tournaments, guest speakers, vendors, and more — there’s something for everyone to check out. Gingerbread house building contest at the museum

JOPLIN, Mo. — One thing that pairs well with Christmas is a gingerbread house. Nana Claus from Inspiring Your Creativity stopped by the studio to tell everyone how to participate. All you have to do is make a gingerbread house and drop it off between December 1st and 9th. Results will be announced on the 10th. Don’t have a way to build one? Well, Nana Claus brings you good news: the first 25 people at 3:30 on December 2nd at the Joplin History & Mineral Museum will get a kit and can enter it into the contest!

The lighting of Sparkle in the Park in Carthage, Mo.

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Monday evening November 28, 2022 at 6 p.m. Carthage Water and Electric will hold the lighting ceremony for Sparkle in the Park at Central Park!

Over the past month CWEP crews have been in Central Park hanging lights for Sparkle in the Park 2022.

We saw the joy & excitement in our community last year & can’t wait to experience it again this holiday season.”

Joplin announces upcoming Breakfast with Santa event

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its Breakfast with Santa event.

This event is on December 3 from 8-10 a.m. at the Joplin History and Mineral Museum.

Officials say this is a come-and-go event where every child will have an opportunity to visit with Santa.

The breakfast will include the following:

  • Pancakes
  • Sausage
  • Bacon
  • Biscuits and gravy

Admission is $6 a person if you register before November 30 then it will increase to $8 a person.

Children under two will be free.

Registration for this event is necessary and seating is limited.
