News To Know: hospital shooting, escaped inmate back in custody

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A shooting at a hospital near Little Rock takes the life of one person, and authorities take a suspect into custody. The hospital CHI St. Vincent north in Sherwood, Arkansas went on lockdown as authorities responded. Police say the victim was visiting a patient and was shot by a person he knew. NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. — An escaped inmate finds himself back in the custody of Newton County. Michael Durison escaped from police custody on the 18th while being treated at Freeman Hospital in Neosho. On Tuesday police found Durison in a travel trailer in Joplin. He is facing several new charges in newton county including assault, robbery, and armed criminal action. FORT SCOTT, Kan. – Fort Scott Community College held an awareness walk for suicide prevention. Linda Her has been organizing these awareness walks in the Southeast Kansas area for seven years in honor of her husband and brother-in-law. Even though national suicide prevention week was three weeks ago, spreading awareness is a year-long effort.

OKLAHOMA – Some folks in Oklahoma got out and ran to show support for first responders and the military. It’s part of the Great American Relay. The relay starts in Santa Monica, California and finishes at the site of the World Trade center in New York. One of the legs of the relay starts at the Afton, Oklahoma fire barn where people run to the fire station in Fairland.

Newton County Escapee captured in Joplin, located in a travel trailer

NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. — Sheriff Chris Jennings states Newton County escapee Michael Durison, 39, is back in police custody.

After following several tips Newton County Detectives and the Joplin Police Department took Durison into custody in a travel trailer located at 1808 West 20th, near 20th and McCoy, in Joplin.

Arrested with Durison at the travel trailer, a 20-year-old female was taken into custody at the same time. Charges are being requested against her for hindering prosecution.

Durison escaped from custody on Sunday, September 18, 2022, while being treated at Freeman Hospital in Neosho. At that time he assaulted a Corrections Officer and managed to flee the hospital.

He was originally being held for extradition to Louisiana. Now he will also face additional charges in Newton County.

Pending new charges submitted to the Newton County Prosecuting Attorney include:

  • First Degree Assault
  • First Degree Robbery
  • Armed Criminal Action
  • Disarming a Corrections Officer
  • Escape from Custody

He is being held without bond at this time.

The Big 3: fire engulfs apartment building, escapee still at large, 88 Strong pass it on and unclaimed lottery money

BIG STORY #3: JOPLIN, Mo. – Just after 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning Joplin E-911 Dispatch received multiple reports of an apartment building fire at 1921 E 9th. Flames were visible above the neighborhood that lies along the north side of the railroad tracks at 9th and Connecticut.  Kids in this neighborhood attend Eastmorland Elementary School. BIG STORY #1: NEOSHO, Mo. – An inmate escapes while receiving treatment at a Neosho, Missouri hospital. The Newton County sheriff’s office warns the public to be on the lookout for 41-year-old Michael Ray Durison, an inmate who escaped while being treated at Freeman Neosho. He is 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, has black hair, and hazel eyes. The sheriff’s office states he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and orange scrub bottoms. He possibly has no shoes. Escapee still at large; “Appearance/clothing may have changed”

NEOSHO, Mo. – Early Sunday morning Newton County Inmate Michael R. Durison escaped custody while under medical treatment at Freeman Neosho Hospital.

Monday morning marked 24 hours and he has not been located.

Michael R Durison is still at large. Please continue to call in any sighting of him. His appearance/clothing may have changed.” — Newton Co. Sheriff’s office

Sources tell us Durison has family in Joplin. He was awaiting extradition to Louisiana on Felony Fugitive Warrant.

Escaped inmate in Neosho, Mo.

NEOSHO, Mo. — The Newton County Sheriff’s office release details regarding an escaped inmate in the early morning hours of Sunday.

Inmate Michael Ray Durison was being treated at Freeman Neosho Hospital when he escaped custody.” — NCSO

  • HEIGHT: 6’
  • WEIGHT: 160
  • AGE: 41

The Sheriff’s office state he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and orange scrub bottoms. He possibly has no shoes.

He is being held on a fugitive hold out of Louisiana.

Authorities as of 5 a.m. are searching through the city of Neosho. Call 911 if you see him.

Escaped Arkansas inmate has ties to Northeast Oklahoma

LEE COUNTY, Ark. – Last Friday an inmate escaped custody from the Eastern Arkansas Regional Unit at Brickeys, Ark. The Arkansas Dept of Corrections are working with the U.S. Marshals Service, Arkansas State Police and countless other agencies in the search.

Samuel Hartman, 38, fled from his field maintenance crew assignment on Arkansas Highway 79. Hartman and a suspected accomplice fired on correctional officers who were giving chase. He is considered armed and dangerous.

New information now revealed he could have ties to NE Oklahoma.  There are two persons of interest being sought. His sister and mother, Misty Hartman and Linda White are thought to have assisted his escape.  Neither woman has been located.

Hartman is serving a life sentence for rape out of Franklin County and has been in Arkansas Division of Correction custody since December 2013. Court papers reveal his victim was his step-daughter who was under 14 at the time.

EASTERN ARK REGIONAL UNIT IS ABOUT 10 MILES FROM THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER 

ADOC now list a vehicle, “Be on the lookout for a white 2021 Chevy Trailboss, 4 doors with black rims that may be bearing Arkansas license plate number 398 ZVY or none at all. This vehicle connected to the escape of East Arkansas Regional Unit inmate Samuel Hartman. Hartman is armed and dangerous.”

Hartman is 5’9″, 230 lbs, he may or may not have a beard.

In the initial escape authorities reveal he and an accomplice abandoned a getaway vehicle.  Then crossed the Mississippi River on Jet Skis.  The first few days of searching focused on the Tunica, Miss. area.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is searching for an escaped inmate

MIAMI, Okla. — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is searching for an inmate who escaped the county jail.

The Sheriff’s Office is looking for “Charles Craig Chance” who also goes by Chuck.

Authorities say chance escaped from the Ottawa County jail at 1a.m. Saturday morning.

He was last seen in North Miami wearing gray sweat pants and a blue hoodie.

Chance was being held on several charges including possession of stolen property, and unauthorized use of a credit/debit card.
