FBI joins bank robbery investigation in southeast Kansas

 

UPDATE: MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. – Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriffs’ office have arrested the suspect in the Independence, Kansas Equity Bank robbery.

The suspect is a 35-year-old man from Marshfield, Missouri.

He was spotted by deputies who were dealing with an injury accident at the Oklahoma State line.

After a chase that went through residential streets in Coffeyville, authorities say the suspect lost control of his vehicle. Authorities say at that time he got out and ran, before he was caught by Montgomery County Deputies.

No formal charges have been filed at this time.

 

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. – The FBI joins an armed robbery investigation at a bank in Independence, Kansas.

The crime happened at the Equity Bank (112 E. Myrtle Street) this afternoon around 1:00 p.m. (May 5, 2021). Authorities have no suspects in custody at this time. Police do not believe there is an immediate threat to the community.

Independence Police Chief Jerry Harrison says the Police Department is working with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities are not releasing any additional details at this time.
