Duplex burns in Carl Junction, frigid high winds

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — About 1:40 p.m. Friday reports along Fir Road in Carl Junction of a residential structure fire alerted CJFIRE Dept.

Carl Junction Fire, METS ambulance and Carl Junction Police responded.

1008 and 1010 Southgate Circle, two large 3-bed, 2-bath, 2-car garage dwellings.

31° currently and the wind chill makes it feel like 19°.

Almost before CJ Fire arrived mutual aid was requested of Joplin Fire and Webb City Fire.

The large duplex is located on Southgate Circle which runs parallel to Fir Road on the southern edge of the Briarbrook Neighborhood.

Red Cross has been requested to respond to assist the families involved.

Carl Junction Fire Chief Joe Perkins has requested assistance from the Missouri State Fire Marshal for investigation.

One firefighter was treated on the scene for an unknown issue.

Duplex fire in Joplin’s Leonard Park Neighborhood

JOPLIN, Mo. — Late Friday night 11:55 p.m. reports from a passerby who saw flames at a residence in the Joplin Housing Authority Complex alerted Joplin 911 Dispatch.

Joplin Fire, Joplin Police and METS ambulance responded to a duplex fire, 409 South Ozark.

Upon arrival first unit observed, “heavy smoke and flames showing,” as fire had broken through the roof.

One side of the duplex, no one was home. The other side an adult male, wheelchair bound, was rescued from the residence.

The active fire was under control quickly but extensive damage and hot spots required lengthy overhaul of the structure.

We are told fire originated in one unit, entered the common space in the attic above and then also entered the second unit.

Battalion Chief John Smith tells us Joplin Fire Marshal Dale Brooks is responding to the scene for investigation.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist one adult male who was displaced.
