Second body recovered, weekend drowning incident at Lake of the Ozarks

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Saturday afternoon November 26, 2022 just before 2:45 p.m. Missouri State Highway Patrol state they were requested to assist in locating two people at Lake of the Ozarks.

The individuals were last seen in the water at the .5 mile mark which is near the Bagnell Dam.

Troopers responded to the area and located one deceased male.

They continued the search for a second person but  at one point discontinuing the search until Sunday morning.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday Troop F states, “Recovery of the second body has been made. More information about this incident will be released later today.”

Burglary suspect escapes custody, jumps railing and drowns

TULSA, Okla. — Thursday morning, October 27, 2022 about 4:30 a.m. Tulsa Police officers responded to an alarm at the Shoreline Apartments clubhouse, in the 2100 block of Mingo.

Officers arrived to discover a shattered front door. Inside the clubhouse, they found the suspect, who was naked at the time.

Officers took the suspect into custody without incident. The suspect remained cooperative and officers found his wet clothing strewn about the office.

As officers were continuing their investigation, the suspect made a break for it, kicked open the back door of the clubhouse, then jumped over the patio railing and into the pond.

The officers immediately chased after the suspect and jumped into the water trying to rescue him in challenging conditions. They made a valiant effort, but the suspect went under the water and did not resurface.

The Tulsa Police Dive Team responded and recovered the suspect’s body this morning in about 10 feet of water with little to no visibility.

Tulsa Police in final state, “We are in the process of locating next of kin for the suspect. More information will be released as it becomes available.”

Body of man recovered from waters at Twin Bridges State Park in Ottawa County, Okla.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Okla. — Thursday evening Grand River Dam Authority Police and water rescue teams were dispatched to Twin Bridges State Park boat ramp to investigate a drowning after a truck and trailer went in the water.

Now Saturday officers of GRDA say they, “recovered the body of a male this morning from the waters of Grand Lake, near the Twin Bridges State Park boat ramp. Officers made the recovery in approximately 27 feet of water.”

Recovery crews had been searching the water in that area since Thursday evening, after a pickup and trailer sank in the lake, about 20 yards off the end of the ramp.

According witnesses, the pickup was backing down the ramp when it went into the water. The driver did not resurface.

GRDA continues, “crews were able to recover the pickup on Friday, however the driver was not inside.”

Next of kin have been notified however the name of the male is not released at this time.

Drowning at Twin Bridges State Park boat ramp

OTTAWA COUNTY, Okla. – Thursday evening reports of rescue boats in the water at Twin Bridges State Park led to a release of information from the Grand River Dam Authority Police Department (GRDA PD).

The Grand River Dam Authority Police Department is working a drowning scene on Grand Lake this evening.” – GRDA

According to GRDA Police, a male was backing a truck with a trailer down the boat ramp at Twin Bridges State Park Thursday evening, on the north end of the lake, when both the truck and trailer went into the water and sank about 20 yards from the end of the ramp. The driver did not exit the vehicle.

Body recovered from the Verdigris River

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. – The Montgomery County, Kansas Sheriff’s office says deputies found a body in the Verdigris River near Coffeyville around 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office says they do not suspect foul play.

The name of the victim is not being released until next of kin is notified.

Young boy from Kansas City drowns in McDonald County

NOEL, Mo. (KSNF) – A six-year-old boy drowns following an incident on the Elk River in McDonald County Friday afternoon.

It happened around 2:00pm about 1.5 miles north of Noel.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the Kansas City boy waded out into the water and could not return to shore.

He then was pronounced at Freeman Neosho at 3:45pm.

This is MSHP Troop D’s 14th drowning in 2021.

Texas woman dies after canoe accident on Elk River

MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. – A Texas resident dies after a canoe accident on the Elk River.

The incident happened on July 27, 2021, about three miles north of Noel, Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a canoe hit a tree in the Elk River and capsized.

The victim, 46-year-old Maria Lilibeth A. Reyes, got trapped underwater between the vessel and the tree.

The victim died later that day at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo. She was from San Antonia, Texas.

This is MSHP Troop D’s 5th boating fatality for 2021. Troop D serves the following southwest Missouri counties: Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone, Taney, Vernon, and Webster.

3-year-old boy drowns in southwestern Missouri lake

NIXA, Mo. – Authorities say a 3-year-old boy has drowned in Table Rock Lake in southwestern Missouri.

Springfield television station KOLR reports the drowning happened Sunday night. Authorities say the boy was left unattended and without a life vest around 9 p.m. at the Mill Creek Park swim area at the lake and was found floating in the water later in the night. The child was flown to a Branson hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The drowning was the 12th handled this year by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D, which covers an 18-county area in the state’s southwestern corner.

One person dies after vehicle gets stuck in floodwaters

CLINTON COUNTY, Mo. (AP) – Authorities say one person died and two other people were rescued after their vehicle got stuck in floodwaters in northwest Missouri.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s office said the people were rescued from the vehicle Saturday as flooding prompted numerous road closures across the state. Their names were not immediately released. The state Transportation Department on Sunday reported dozens of road closures across central Missouri between St. Louis and Kansas City.

The National Weather Service warned that lingering thunderstorms across the state could create additional flooding over the next several days. A flood warning remains in effect across a large section of central Missouri.

Missouri drownings prompt warnings to be careful in water

EUREKA, Mo. (AP) – Officials are urging people to take steps to prevent drownings as the arrival of hot weather and the easing of the COVID-19 pandemic means bigger crowds at Missouri waterways.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that at least 10 people have drowned so far this month in Missouri, and six others died in boating accidents. None of the 16 victims wore a life jacket. Across Missouri, at least 39 people have either drowned or died in boating accidents so far in 2021, including at least seven children.

Several public safety officials gathered Monday in the St. Louis suburb of Eureka for a news conference urging caution on the water.
