Columbus righty Stover named 3A Pitcher of the Year

COLUMBUS, Kan. – Seth Stover got the good news earlier this week.

“I was just sitting on my couch watching TV and my mom came in and said “Hey, did you know you’re the 3A Pitcher of the Year?””

The junior right-hander for Columbus has been named 1st team All-State and the 3A Pitcher of the Year by “Sports in Kansas” after a dominant spring.

The honors come after being named 2nd team All-State by the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches.

“I was quite surprised. I didn’t think I was up there, just because I was 2nd-team All-State,” Stover says, “Then I started getting all the tweets and all that. Everybody was letting me know. It’s a real honor, honestly. It means a lot.”

Stover had a stellar year on the mound for the Titans.

He threw 41 innings for Columbus this spring, racking up 56 strikeouts along the way. He finished with a 5-1 record and a .85 ERA.

Stover led the Titans to their first ever appearance in the 3A state tournament – where they finished as state runner-up in Manhattan.

Columbus finished the season with a 22-3 overall record, and earned a share of the CNC league title in the regular season.

“We came up short last year, but I think this year we had a great run,” Stover says, “We’re going to come up big next season. We have big expectations. We have to come out and do the best we can, and hopefully go back to (state) next year.”

Columbus head coach Mick Tedlock named 3A coach of the year

COLUMBUS, Ks. – Columbus head coach Mick Tedlock was named the 3A coach of the year.

“I was surprised and I didn’t expect it,” Tedlock says. “It’s a tribute to the boys, the players and the assistant coaches too.”

Tedlock led the Titans to a historic finish this past season. Columbus made its first ever state tournament appearance this spring, but they didn’t just make the tournament, they went on to earn a spot in the state championship game. The Titans finished as the 3A state runner up with a 22-3 overall record.

“Leading this group has been very special,” Tedlock says. “They play well. I got good pitching and they hit the ball well. They’re very coachable kids. We have a lot of younger kids and they look up to [the varsity high school team] and we talk about that too. Hopefully that will build and keep going for the future of Titan baseball.”
