MSSU women climb into top-5 in national rankings

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women’s basketball team is in the top-5 in the nation for the first time in program history.

The Lions are #5 in the latest WBCA Division II poll released on Tuesday afternoon.

Missouri Southern is 7-0 to begin the season, and will play their first MIAA game of the year on Thursday at home against Northwest Missouri State.

Ferris State knocks Pitt State out of Division II playoffs

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – (WATCH) Ferris State tops Pitt State 17-14 in the second round of the Division II playoffs Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldog defense tallied 9 sacks on the day against the Gorillas, including six from DE Caleb Murphy.

The Gorillas end the season with a 12-1 overall record.

Gorillas roll by St. Mary in home opener; Gerber posts double-double

PITTSBURG, Kan. – (WATCH) Pitt State tops St. Mary 95-63 in their home opener Wednesday night.

Karenna Gerber posts a double-double for the Gorillas with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Jenna Shipley goes 8-13 from the floor to finish with 20 points. Grace Pyle (18 pts, 4-5 3pt) and Tristan Gegg (13 pts) were also in double figures for Pitt State.

Jones leads MSSU over Missouri S&T; Lions off to 6-0 start

JOPLIN, Mo. – (WATCH) Missouri Southern tops Missouri S&T 73-50 Wednesday night to get to 6-0 this season.

Kryslyn Jones leads the Lions with 18 points. Madi Stokes (10 pts) and Amaya Johns (10 pts, 7 reb) were also in double figures for Missouri Southern.

Kaitlin Hunnicutt finishes with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Layne Skiles adds 8 points and 6 rebounds. Lacy Stokes posts a team-high 7 assists.

Gorillas prepare for second round showdown with Ferris State

PITTSBURG, Kan. – (WATCH) Pitt State prepares for their second round playoff matchup with Ferris State.

The Gorillas are 12-0 and are the #3 seed in the region, while the defending national champion Bulldogs are 10-1 and are the #2 seed.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 12 PM.

Gorillas dominate Indianapolis in playoff opener

PITTSBURG, Kan. – (WATCH) #4 Pitt State beats #13 UIndy 35-0 in the first round of the Division II playoffs Saturday.

Pitt State will travel to face Ferris State in the second round next weekend.

Long, Taggart lead Lions over Illinois-Springfield; McMahon earns first win as head coach

PITTSBURG, Kan. – (WATCH) Parker Long and Avery Taggart lead Missouri Southern to an 89-80 win over Illinois-Springfield Friday night at the Pitt State Classic.

Long was 9-12 from the field and finished with a team-high 23 points, while Taggart scored 20 points and added 5 asssists. Vinson Sigmon Jr. (15 pts) and Lawson Jenkins (14 pts) were also in double figures for the Lions.

Friday’s win was the first win for MSSU head coach Sam McMahon as the leader of the Lions’ basketball program.
