Karlee Myers doesn’t let anything stop her from going after what she wants.
“Everything that I’ve thought I couldn’t do, I’ve figured something out,” Myers says.
“Karlee is a really neat kid. She’s amazing,” says Cherryvale head coach Angela Edwards. “She’s probably one of the happiest kids I’ve ever known. What she’s able to do even with the limitations she has is truly amazing. I shouldn’t even say limited because it doesn’t seem to limit her that much.”
Myers plays in the outfield for the Cherryvale Chargers. She was born with one arm.
“I just adapted as I grew up,” Myers says. “My biggest difficulty is just seeing how other people do everything. I know that I’m going to have to learn to do things differently and adjust in my own way.”
She’s tried a few different techniques since picking up the sport in seventh grade.
“There was one trial and error where I would catch the ball and toss it up in the air a little bit and throw my glove down on the ground. Then, I’d catch the ball and throw it, but one time when I was going to do that the ball came back and hit me in the face. So, I never did that again,” Myers says with a smile.
So, it was time to adapt.
“She has it timed where she can catch a fly ball drop the glove and immediately make the throw,” Edwards says. “It’s truly amazing to watch.”
It’s not always easy, but Myers says staying positive is just part of her personality.
“She’s out there and she’s trying every day,” Edwards says. “She’s does everything that’s asked of her. She always has a smile on her face. She truly is positive, and she doesn’t let things get her down.”
“I just tell myself to try again and that I’ll do better next time,” Myers says. “I definitely think I could improve more. There’s always room for improvement, but I’m pretty proud of myself.”
Myers and the Chargers will be back on the field Friday night against Eureka.
