Authorities attempt to locate Non-Compliant Sex Offender

BARTON COUNTY, Mo. — Authorities seek to locate a non-compliant absconder sex offender.

Edwin Raymond Jante, 52, is listed as an Absconder in the Missouri State Highway Patrol Sex Offender Registry.

Jante pleaded Guilty in 1997 to Felony Deviate Sexual Assault involving a 14-year-old. The crime occurred in 1994. After serving his sentence he is to be registered on the Sex Offender Registry.

According to records in recent years Jante has lived in Lockwood and Lamar.

  • Non-Compliant – the offender has not completed or updated his/her information and is not compliant with the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the county in which they reside.
  • Absconder – the offender’s whereabouts are unknown to law enforcement officials (As defined by the State of Mo.).

Multi-county pursuit, shots fired at Deputies, subject in custody

BARTON COUNTY, Mo. — Saturday afternoon, Oct 15, 2022 a vehicle involved in a hit and run in rural Vernon County was located by a Barton County Deputy in Lamar, Mo.

The suspect vehicle did not stop for the Deputy and fled. The Deputy initiated pursuit which the made its way north on I-49. Reported speeds up to 130 mph.

“The suspects vehicle became disabled after it left the roadway near Milo, Mo in Vernon County. When the suspect exited the vehicle, he began shooting at the Deputy striking their patrol car. The Deputy was not injured and the suspect ran from the scene on foot.” — BCSO

PURSUIT No.2

A short time later Vernon County received a call that a car was just stolen in Milo. Deputies with Vernon County located the vehicle and initiated another pursuit.

Vernon County, Barton County, MSHP and Nevada Police assisted in pursuing the vehicle. The vehicle became disabled in a field in rural Vernon County and a search was conducted. After no success it was decided to discontinue the search.

PURSUIT No.3

As Deputies and Officers were about to clear the scene Vernon County received another call that a farmers vehicle was stolen and they were following it. A pursuit was initiated by Vernon County.

At one point Deputies with Vernon County were forced to fire at the suspects vehicle. The pursuit continued in to Cedar County where the vehicle crashed and the driver fled on foot.

MSHP Helicopter was also in pursuit and was able to lead Deputies and Officers to the suspect and take him in to custody about 9:30 p.m. off MO-97 near 1450 Road without incident.

The name of the suspect will be released once formal charges are filed.

Barton County Sheriff’s office thank the agencies involved for their assistance: Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Police Department, Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Conservation and Vernon County Ambulance for their assistance.

BARTON COUNTY, Mo. — Just before 2:00 Sunday morning, reports of a crash along State Route V near NE 40th alerted Barton County E-911. A Barton County Deputy arrived first, locating the crash about 10 miles northwest of Lamar. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified. Authorities reported a single vehicle crash with three occupants; the driver, Benjamin Harrington, 18, of Lamar was killed. Click here to read more about this story.

JOPLIN, Mo. – Collectors in the Joplin area gathered at Cecil Floyd Elementary on Saturday for the 2022 Joplin Collectors Expo. Officials say the expo featured Missouri Robot Fights, a cosplay contest, and more cool events. Plus vendors had plenty of collectibles including various cards, figurines and games. Shooting in Liberal, Mo. police seek person of interest

LIBERAL, Mo. — About 5:40 p.m. Friday evening reports received state a shooting occurred in Liberal. A person of interest was being sought related to the shooting who had left on foot from the scene.

About 7 p.m an image and release of more details from the Barton County Sheriff’s office online:

Barton County Deputies are currently working a shooting in Liberal. We are asking citizens to contact the Sheriffs Department if you see this individual. He is a person of interest as of right now.”  We asked Deputies in Liberal the name of the pictured individual but it is not being released at this time.  The person of interest has distinct tattoos.

Chief Deputy Justin Erhsam tells us on scene it began about 5:40 p.m. when the victim made a call to 911 stating he had been shot.  The victim was flown to an area hospital for treatment.

He was stable when being transported,” Chief Deputy Erhsam says, however there is no update on his condition at this time.

The property on the SW corner of Ingersoll and Walser Ave are wrapped in crime scene tape. He said it’s too early in the investigation to determine where the shooting occurred, whether indoors or outdoors.

They are currently searching an area south and west of Liberal in Barton County where the individual is thought to have left on foot.  Missouri State Highway Patrol are assisting in the search by patrolling the area.

About 11 p.m. Friday night Sheriff John Simpson states online:

Subject has not been located at this time. We do believe based on information that we have received he is no longer in the area. Other area law enforcement agencies have been made aware of the incident and will be looking for him as well. If you see him please contact your local law enforcement agency. Do not try and apprehend him as he may still be armed.”
