Massive structure fire spreads from building to building in Carthage, Mo.

CARTHAGE, Mo. — About 7:45 p.m. Saturday evening reports of a commercial structure fire at 100 Grant, NE of the square alerted Jasper County E-911.

First reported on fire was a former sheet metal and lumber business. The fire spread to Carthage oldest Latino Church, Iglesia Christiana at 122 Grant.

Carthage Fire immediately requested support from these departments and others:

  • Avilla Fire
  • Webb City Fire
  • Carterville Fire
  • Duenweg Fire
  • Jasper Mo. Fire

Meteorologist Doug Heady states winds today were gusting up to 55 mph. You can obviously see in our live! report the flames were exacerbated by the high winds.

Chief Ryan Huntley tells us on scene they requested the State Fire Marshals office to assist in their investigation. He also says no firefighters were injured fighting the fire.

The fire was under control just after 10 p.m.

Carthage Firefighters will have a long night. About 11:45 p.m. heavy equipment was arriving to take down portions of roof and walls that are dangerous.

“Fully involved trailer house,” Carthage Fire first on scene report

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – Just before 3:45 p.m. reports of a structure fire at 9521 County Lane 126 alerted Jasper County E911.

Carthage Fire, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies, Mercy Carthage responded.  Carthage Fire Chief Ryan Huntley tell us Avilla Fire responded as mutual aid.

Neighbors say they didn’t believe anyone was home at the time.

Carthage Fire was out for attack in a defensive fire as they evacuated nearby trailer houses.

Fire was under control in 30 minutes.

One firefighter was treated on the scene for unknown medical.  He was not injured by fire.

The trailer home was totally destroyed.  Fire did not spread to nearby trailers.

Liberty Utilities responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  It was found that no one was living there currently. The State Fire Marshal was requested to respond assisting with investigation.

Lightning strike sparks house fire east of Carthage, Mo.

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Just before 4:44 a.m. Monday morning JASCO E911 were alerted to a structure fire east of Carthage on Hwy 96.

Carthage Fire, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and Mercy Ambulance responded. Avilla Fire responded as mutual aid.

Everyone got out safely before fire crews arrived to 8612 Hwy 96. 

The fire started from a reported lightning strike to the rear of the residence. Gusting winds continued to fan the flames.

Carthage Fire 96 command stated fire was under control at 6:22 a.m.

State Fire Marshal assists investigation of fire in Reeds, Mo.

REEDS, Mo. — Just before 5:45 a.m. Jasper County Emergency Dispatch were alerted to reports of a structure fire at 4491 S Smith in the town of Reeds.

Sarcoxie Rural Fire, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies, Carthage Mercy responded to a residence on the SW corner of 6th and Smith. Mutual aid fire support arrived from Avilla and Carthage.

The wood frame home was fully engulfed as firefighters arrived. At least one vehicle burned close to the residence.

On scene fire is still active and few details are known. The State Fire Marshal has been requested to assist investigation which is routine.

House fire NE of Carthage on Old 66 Blvd

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Just after noon Saturday Jasper County Emergency 911 were alerted to a structure fire just south of CR120 and MO-96 along Old 66 Blvd.

Carthage Fire, Mercy Ambulance and Avilla Fire as mutual aid responded. Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted. 

Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies tell us on scene everyone was out of the residence safely at 12130 Old 66 Blvd, NE of Carthage.

Carthage Fire cleared the scene and returned to quarters at 2:55 p.m.
