The Neosho, Missouri American Legion Post is suing the city of Neosho to gain ownership of a city building at 211 West Brook. The American Legion has been using the building and says it’s legally theirs by a 2004 agreement, but the Legion has not yet received the deed.

Joplin has provided a free drop-off site where residents can take broken tree limbs. That’s at 1702 North Schifferdecker. It’ll be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through January 4, and will be open every day except Christmas, New Years and Sunday.

Dakota Vincent, 23, is all too aware of what often happened to those like him who were born prematurely or with disabilities and wound up in a neonatal intensive care unit. “After I was born, I spent almost a year in the NICU in a hospital in Kansas City, Kan.,” said Vincent, who has cerebral palsy. “My mom and dad said when I left there — and this is the sad part — that there were some parents who just left their kids there.” But Vincent wasn’t left behind.

The freezing rain that glazed trees across the region on Saturday continued to cause power outages Sunday, but electric utility line crews were getting the upper hand as the day wore on. Extreme cold through Tuesday could limit how much thawing takes place.

A few weeks ago, our mail carrier brought a manila envelope to our door, wondering if the contents might pertain to me. The address was simply Kellogg Lake, on Easterly Drive. Even though we live on Old Route 66 Boulevard, it was a good guess because being secretary-treasurer for the Kellogg Lake Nature Center, I do get a lot of mail addressed to Kellogg Lake.
