Freeman Foundation announces promotion

Freeman Foundation, the fundraising arm of Freeman Health System, announces the promotion of Heather Lesmeister. After serving as Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Special Projects Coordinator for nearly eight years, Lesmeister has been promoted to Freeman Assistant Director of Development and External Relations and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Program Director.

Diamond man rises above challenges of cerebral palsy to become fitness trainer

Dakota Vincent, 23, is all too aware of what often happened to those like him who were born prematurely or with disabilities and wound up in a neonatal intensive care unit. “After I was born, I spent almost a year in the NICU in a hospital in Kansas City, Kan.,” said Vincent, who has cerebral palsy. “My mom and dad said when I left there — and this is the sad part — that there were some parents who just left their kids there.” But Vincent wasn’t left behind.

Pittsburg church’s windows combine recent history, that from biblical times

There is some recent history, along with that from Bible times, depicted in stained glass windows at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg. The Nativity scene is central in the sanctuary of the church at 412 N. Pine St. But the 100-year-old church also has windows depicting the Kansas state seal and the entrance to Russ Hall at Pittsburg State University.
