The Tropics continue to be a little bit active as of June 18th. In the Atlantic Basin, there still is a weak disturbance in the western Gulf of Mexico. As long as this system still holds together, it’ll continue to bring waves of disorganized rain and t-storms for the southern and southeastern Texas coast. Both Missouri U.S. Senators Push Back On Immigration Policy

Kobach Says He'll Appeal Voter Registration Ruling

   Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach says his office will appeal a federal judge’s ruling concerning voting rights.     U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson ruled Monday that Kansas cannot require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote, finding such laws violate the constitutional right to vote.     The ruling is the latest setback for Kobach, who has championed such laws and led President Donald Trump’s now-defunct voter fr…

Kansas Joins Lawsuit Challenging DACA

    Add Kansas to the list of states joining in a legal challenge to an immigration program for people who arrived in the U.S. as children.     The program, called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, was established by former President Barack Obama in 2012.     About 7,000 people in Kansas have obtained work permits under DACA.   It grants temporary legal status to some immigrants without proper documents who came to the U.S. as children…

SEK Humane Society Receives 38K Donation

The Southeast Kansas Humane Society is moving forward with renovations thanks in part to a private donation. The shelter received a check on Monday (6/18) for more than $38,390 from the Ronald O. Thomas Foundation. The donation is a result of a fundraising match for the humane society that’ll go towards a new perimeter fence, electronic gate, cat room renovation, sidewalks, outdoor exercise pins, a play area and a mini dog park that will be named in honor of Ronald O. Thomas.
