Donation to provide vests for police dogs

Thanks to the generosity of local donors and a Massachusetts-based nonprofit, Joplin police dogs soon can join their human counterparts in wearing protective vests while on the job. All five of the local department’s dogs will have their own vests in about two or three months after a Joplin couple donated the money for their purchase via Vested Interest in K-9s Inc., according to Cpl. Brian Henderson, who supervises the canine unit.

Girl Scouts gear up for annual sale; troops host annual Cookie Crunch-Off event

There are a few strategies when it comes to eating Girl Scout cookies as quickly as possible. Some competitors at Saturday’s Cookie Crunch-Off at Missouri Southern State University soaked the cookies in milk. A few crumbled them into a bowl and poured the crumbs into their mouths. Others just ate each cookie whole. More than 250 Girl Scouts gathered for the event that kicks off this year’s cookie sale.
