Lt. Bill Barksdale to retire

Lt. Bill Barksdale is retiring from the Carthage Police Department on Wednesday. He started in 1980 at the department and has seen so much is his long career. He says there are 29 officers at the department and 13 of them weren’t even alive when he made his first traffic stop. He says not everyday was easy, but it’s the people who made him stay on the job so long.

Carthage police had a busy couple of days on Sunday and Monday, with a subject who shot himself in his home on Sunday afternoon and a stabbing at a home early Monday.
Carthage Police Chief Greg Dagnan said the victims in these unrelated incidents seemed likely to survive as of Monday evening, and officers were still looking for suspects in the Monday stabbing.
