Galen Ralph Magner, 73, of Erie, Kansas, passed away at 8:17 a.m., Saturday, December 3rd, 2022 in Parsons, Kansas.
He was born May 8th, 1949 in Iola, Kansas to Jerald and Carolyn LaVonne (Gibbs) Magner. As a young boy he grew up and attended school in Galesburg, Kansas. He was a member of the last class to graduate from Galesburg High School in 1967. Following high school he graduated from Kansas School of Barbering in Wichita, Kansas.
On July 7th, 1968, Galen and Judy Smith were united in marriage. She survives of the home.
Galen was a self-employed barber in Parsons and St. Paul, Ks. for nearly 40 years. He was then employed by Neosho County Road and Bridge department until his retirement in 2015.
In his younger years he raised livestock and was involved in his children’s 4-H activities. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, camping and cutting wood.
Survivors include:
Spouse – Judy, of the home.
Daughter – Kim (Ron) Lamb of Parsons, Kansas.
Son – Casey (Angie) Magner of Erie, Kansas.
His Mother – LaVonne Magner of Chanute, Kansas.
A sister – Leita (Mick) Thurman of Erie, Kansas.
A brother – Leon (Pattie) Magner of Denison, Texas.
Four Grandchildren – Brady Magner, Jacob Lamb, Colby Hines and Cassidy Hines.
He was proceeded in death by his father in 2006 and a sister, Cleita Magner in 1976.
Cremation has taken place.
The family will receive friends, Friday, December 9th, 2022 from 6-8pm at the Neosho Valley Event Center on the fairgrounds in Erie, Kansas. (321 North Wood)
Interment of cremains will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Galesburg, Kansas at a later date.
