Former teacher victim of Thanksgiving Day fire

COMMERCE, Okla. – Authorities say the victim of a Thanksgiving morning fire in Commerce was a former school teacher.

According to the Commerce Police Department, 84-year-old Leanna Mustain died in a fire at 125 N. Maple on the morning of November 24, 2022.

Leanna lived in the Wyandotte and Commerce area all her life. She graduated from Wyandotte High School class of 1956 and attended NEO A&M College in Miami and Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg.

She was a Chemistry and Biology Teacher at Commerce Public Schools for 27 years.

KOAM has reached out to the State Fire Marshal’s Office for an update on the investigation into the fire. On Thanksgiving Day, a Fire Marshal Agent told KOAM didn’t suspect any criminal cause.
