Evelyn Waneita Colley

Heaven was delighted to receive another Angel on November 22, 2022, as Evelyn Colley was exactly that, an Angel to those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Always a joy to be around with a positive attitude and a great sense of humor, she will be missed by those here on Earth.

Evelyn Waneita Colley passed away in the early morning hours, just minutes before a beautiful sunrise. The sun rose that morning over the hilltop bringing life, light, joy, and beauty into the world, just as Evelyn had done during her 93 years here on Earth. One had to know that heaven was rejoicing to receive Evelyn.

Evelyn was born February 26, 1929, in Purdy, Missouri, the daughter of Ward and Opal Swearingen and one of nine children, Evelyn was one of the middle children. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1947, and married Alan Byron Colley on December 28, 1948. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Ann Loyd, of Billings, Missouri; granddaughter, Tina Loyd, of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Kaye Scott and her husband Dale and Marilyn Baugh, all of Mt. Vernon; her brother Jack Swearingen and his wife, Delores, of Crane, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ward, and Opal; her husband Alan; her son, Clarence Colley; two sisters, Barbara Spilman and Jean Gambrell and three brothers, Alvin, Roland, and Jerald Swearingen.

Evelyn was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ, and Daughters of the American Revolution. As a homemaker she was extremely resourceful, creative and a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed quilting, learning, and spending time with family and friends.

Evelyn loved her children, Ann and Clearance and her granddaughter Tina. She especially enjoyed spending a great deal of time with Tina as a child. Evelyn and Tina enjoyed traveling together and long conversations. They shared many inspiring talks, including stories about Evelyn’s childhood with her eight brothers and sisters with whom she also had a special bond. These conversations always demonstrated the values of hard work, perseverance, and faith in the Lord.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.

Memorial donations in memory of Evelyn may be made payable to the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
