JOPLIN, Mo. — Eleven elementary-aged students ditch the car and bus rides to school and ride their bikes instead.
The bike bus is led by parents and gives the kids some extra exercise. They do keep the weather in mind, ditching the bikes if temperatures are below freezing.
Their idea was started when a local 4-state woman, Christina Williams, started biking to school with her kids. She gathered a group of children from her neighborhood and that’s how the bike bus was born.
Those involved say it helps avoid the hassle of dropoff lines. The group’s goal is to bike for at least 100 days this year.
KOAM’s Janna Hautala and Olevia Opel spoke with the group, which they say is full of really cool kids.
